Good though dated information Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Digital Communications with Amateur Radio written by Jim Grubbs was distributed by Radio Shack in 1988. It originally sold for $6.95

Although this 160 page book may seem dated by today's standards. This book still provides useful information for many of the multi-mode terminal node controllers that are still being sold at hamfests and on online auction sites today.

Models discussed include the MFJ-1278, PK-232 as well as the Kantronics KAM. Whether you just bought a used TNC or have one sitting in your closet that hasn't been used for a long time, you might want to get a copy of this book.

The book provides good information on how and why packet radio works from keyboard to keyboard comms to digipeating, bbs, gateways and even packet satellite.

If this was 1988 or 1990, I would give this book a 5 out of 5.

Today the book gets a 4 out of 5 because it still provides good information on equipment that is still being sold today on the secondary market despite its 1988 publishing date. If you see this selling for a few bucks somewhere, I suggest getting it especially if you plan on getting one of those older TNC's from back in the day.
