New accessories for hexbeam construction. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
A new and unique addition to the component selection for hexbeam construction was noted on the famous auction site that has endless variety both good and bad. Since new hexbeam construction/modification seems always an interesting activity, I was curious to note a better idea from KO6HL, Bill. Bill has developed a set of telescoping spreader clamps and wire guides made from UHMW synthetic polymer (polystyrene to most of us) that is claimed to be both weatherproof and durable with a lifetime warranty. Sizes are for 1/2 and 3/4 inch fiberglas telescoping spreaders with 1 inch items available on request. Purchasing sets of both clamps and wire guides, I was curious to see if the new idea worked as claimed. Refitting an older triband hexbeam demonstrated both adequate clamping power to the telescoping spreaders (replacing screw clamps) and wire adjustment (again replacing a screw clamp/fuel line mod.) with the wire clamps. Appearance...much improved! Bill provides the polymer clamps with stainless steel hardware to again forestall rusting (appreciate that). Checking with Bill regarding UV stability as well as long term clamping ability, he feels that both issues are adequately addressed with his selection of material and personal testing...consequently his lifetime guarantee. Bill stated he has a website currently under construction to offer these items and other hexbeam hardware on a regular basis with the auction site simply as a test market. Based on my experience with these initial offerings from Bill, I do hope this idea evolves. The clamps are very nicely done, relatively inexpensive compared to DIY, and just plain look good on the antenna. No commercial interest whatsoever...just pleased to find a useful addition to hexbeam construction.
