Yaesu 736R off frequency Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Called Amateur Radio Repair about realignment of my favorite Yaesu rig. Was 2 KC off frequency on VHF as well as some minor concerns. Had trouble finding anybody who would even consider looking at it since it was purchased from R&L new in 1990, several shops said no vintage radio repair. I was contemplating asking my Japanese XYL to phone Akihabara Japan for repair (A Dayton Hamvention 24/7, they can repair rigs while you wait). Then I called Cal and he says no problem send it to me. Thought it might take a month or longer so I re-installed a mobile Yaesu rig to supplement. No sooner did I get the mobile rig mounted I received an E-mail from cal saying it was repaired and ready to ship and at a 1/3 of the price I expected. Thank you Cal for the quick turnaround and at a less than expected cost. 73's AA9VZ

FT 847 Power Switch Repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Cal performed an awesome job and was very responsive via email. He told me that it would take 2-3 weeks time to fix my power switch and he performed the FT 847 switch repair and modification within 2 weeks time. He also went through my rig, changed the internal battery, lubed everything, and also replaced a diode on RF sensitivity. I would highly recommend his great service. The repairs made a big difference and receiver improvements were a great improvement too.

Not Recommended Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
As shipping costs are going thru the roof and Ham Repair is only 85 miles away thought I would send my FT-5200 down for a minor repair. Cost me just over $9 to send it via USPS. Problem was the radio would not key the repeater, otherwise working fine. Nothing heard for 4 wks. so I inquired as to status. Was told I had been invoiced after about 2 wks. but I did not receive anything so I asked for a resend. Got a bill for $74 that included $27 for shipping. Called and was told that was his standard but if I wanted to arrange another method he would refund the $27 (3 days after I paid the bill he still had not shipped the radio back) and I could handle it. Told Cal to just send the rig back. When I received it the radio keyed the repeater once, then never again no matter how it was reset. I just wrote off the $74 bill and will try to figure out what is wrong with the radio myself. Suggest you use this service at your own risk.

The Best Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Sent my Kenwood TS-2000 to Cal.. Multi knob not functioning correctly and I also thought it had a receive problem.. It also needed a good cleaning and realignment.. Cal also suggested replacing the memory battery and display lights.. He called me and told my receive problem was not in the radio.. I chose to get the LED upgrade and replace all lights.. Boy I'm glad I did!! Worth every penny..Gone is the old orange display and now light blue.. It makes the old radio look more modern.. Not the dark blue you see on some CB radios..The multi knob part is no longer available but he repaired the old one and it functions like new.. He also took the time on the phone to go over my setup to help find what was causing my receive problem.. After a short process of elimination I found it to be in the external amp I had it hooked too..All this in a 2 week turn around and very reasonable price.. A+

Cal is Just Good! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I had an older 520 that had a loss of signal in the RX chain. I couldn't track it. Sent it to Cal. He went so far as to remove a small coil/add padders to bring the tuned circuit in. Rx Great now. He was very reasonable, and great communication. I have refered 2 others to him. This is not my first rig he has fixed. He is a smart technician. Randy

Cal fixed a circuit board I had screwed up and went beyond and aligned and tested it all for a very fair price. Had it back in less than a week.

Sent an 11 year old Icom Pro3 in for power output issues.
Service was fast and fairly priced to get the rig back on the air. I will be using these guys again for any service issues that come up with my equipment.

Terrific! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A few years ago, My TS440 died from a lightning strike. A local repair technician said the radio was not repairable. I sent it to Cal: He repaired it back to full functioning status, and it’s still working perfectly. Thank you, Cal.
