Bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought a mobile set-up to take with me to Maui last winter and the coils loaded with infinite SWR on my IC706MK2G so I left it at home.

New products are crap Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a new 20M resonator at Dayton for my mobile antenna, and it works fine until it rains and it gets wet, Jason says to coat it with silicon (that is bad), but I did it and still does the same. I had a Hustler antenna for mobile for 25 years with no problems with all bands (the old gray resonators). With all the good reports, I rate it (Hustler) now, as a real bad decision.
I rate the new Hustler products as 0 minus.

Good System Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought the Hustler 54" mast and three coils back in 92 I ran them for a while and then just wasnt on the radio for a while. When I got back on the air, I bought a 75s and took the 15m coil off. Up until last week I was very very happy.
I just started driving an 18 wheeler and I bought the 22 mast. I installed the MO4 on my car and ran t there for a few weeks. When I got my truck last week, I put the MO4 (22") mast on the mirror braket on my truck . Tunned the coils and headed out for Indiana. About 20 or so miles down I76 west in PA I stopped at a truck stop to stock up on smokes and munchies , I got out of the truck ,looked up and EVERYTHING WAS GONE !!!!!!!!! I climbed up to see if maybe the mast had broken off at the mount but nope, it was like someone unscrewed the mast. There is NO WAY anyone could have takin it off I started driving right after I put the antenna on . The only thing I can figure is the treads failed . I am going to call HRO and see if they will replace the system . And I am also going to put in a call to New Tronics and see what they wil do for me . The only other thing I dont like is when water gets inside the coils. Up until this happend I was very happy.

so so signals Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have and have had a bunch of these and they are are just about across the board 1 to 2 s- units down from a hamstick, and worse against my DK-3.. they are fun to putb together as dipoles, with a mast and stand, and with 4 on each end it looks like antlers, that works so so, but is a killer look for you booth at the ham fest, and you can tune it to show off radios you are selling..

I use the Hustler 5BVT as my vert at the house and is a really good vert antenna for $159. I am quite happy with it , ground mount , easy to install easy to tune. works well for a vert.

I have a bucket full of the mobile hustlers and in side by side test with a iron horse ( ham stick) the hustlers were 1 to 2 s-units down on signal. I was using the tall tilt over mast and either the small or super sized antennas. I ended up using a 10 and 40 ham stick and a tuner to work mobile.

I am getting ready to put a real DK 3 I got from Don last year in the place of the ham sticks.

I still have the hustlers, and will probably ebay them some day, or give to a ham who needs a stealth antenna or such.

They work, ok, but a bit les effictive than the sticks in my application.

I still love the vert out in the yard.

Best mobile antenna Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using the Hustler mobile whip antenna for the past 53 years. the RM 75 which I lengthened for the cw portion of 80 meters, RM40, RM20, RM15, RM10, never had a bit of problems. These resonators are very easy to tune and provide a very low angle of radiation on my Ford F100 truck. Have worked Europe and Asia mobile with no problems and very good signal reports. The only change that occured was the gray insulated cover became brittle and I removed the covering and used a good make of electrical tape which even made it a good looking black cover. Not only works great on mobile, but also mounted on a tripod when used for camping with the four resonators, 40 thru 10 mounted for very fast band changing and no tuning.
.:I recommend this use for CC&R, put it out in the dark and bring back indoors before daybreak:.

I have been using the Hustler Vertical resonators for over 52 years and never had a failure. I did have to run tape over the resonator coils as the grey covering began to crack and separate. Used rubber tape and looks great with being black. At 120 degrees temperatures I believe these antennas hold up very well. I do not use the spring mount and it is much sturdier without. With 100 watts to the antenna, no problem working Europe from the west coast on the 20 meter band mobile. I made a good choice with Hustler and the same for my 5BTV from hustler for 30 plus years. Good products and dependable at that.

This product is not dependable Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
As a retread ham, first ticket was in 1962, then lapsed in 1983, and back into the hobby in 2004 as a Extra. In the 60's and 70's, i used Hustler Antenna's and they were a great product then. Things have changed,. The company was bought out by Newtronics, a Texas firm.
i purchased the Hustler system for my mobile in 2004 mainly due to my past experience with Hustler..
In 1 year, i have had 3 broken ball mounts, the old ones were cast, the new one are stamped crap. Hustler told me i had to have a brace on the mast,. Didnt need one with the old mounts.
1 bad 40m super resonator. HRO replaced, resonater died during a rainstorm.
2 bad 20m super resonators (was able to repair 1 of them), found heavy corrosion inside the coil.
1 cracked mast that i had to replace.
2 17m resonators, the first was way out of band, HRO replaced it, but the second was the same, resonated around 21Mhz.
All this in about 1 year of use
So i now have a mast that wont screw into the ball (3rd) due to failed threading, and 5 resonators..
I worry everytime im operating mobile if the stuff is gonna work, or even if it is gonna stay on my truck at freeway speeds,.
Back before Newtronice bought out Hustler, these were good products, but now, they are JUNK. i would not recommend this stuff to anyone,.

Great antenna Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well guys...its been 4 years since I've been mobile and within a few minutes of getting my hitch mount installed and the Hustler mast in place I was working stations all over the US and Canada and even worked the Battleship Missouri sitting in Pearl Harbor from my driveway here in Montana...I had my Hustlers for 15 years and while there can be an issue with moisture getting in the coil I have never had one of these that didn't work great...A little attention to the moisture problem ahead of time and your good to go...There may be better more expensive antennas but for the money they work very well......

Short lived use Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I am abandoning my used but working Hustler fold over mast and super resonators on my Dodge Dakota in favor of the Hustler 102" stainless whip and SGC 239 combination. The fold over mast was difficult to keep from vibrating loose, the super resonators suck water and detune in wet weather, and the visual impact is a bit too ugly for my taste, especially on a brand new vehicle.

Rain soaked resonator Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have also suffered the degradation of my 40-meter "Super" resonator due to the heavy rains of recent weeks. Like the other poster, my SWR shot up to over 3:1. Received signal strength dropped considerably.

Out of desperation, last night I dug out my old 40-meter standard resonator and screwed it onto the mast. Viola! The SWR dropped to 1.2:1, received signals were once again loud and strong. I had already reasoned that water might be the culprit.

I blew hard into the weep hole at the bottom of the resonator and sure enough, the sound of bubbles blowing through the resonator accompanied an instant spray of water from under the shrink wrap covering.

I will be discussing this with the Newtronics folks this weekend at Dayton. In the meantime, the rest of my super resonators will likely get a good sealing of the joints with caulk. Hopefully that will help keep the coils dry.

A Fair Weather Friend Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was prepared to pick up a HS screwdriver for my SUV, mostly for convenience, but opting for the somewhat better efficiency of a center-loaded antenna I grabbed an MO-2 and a full assortment of the high power resonators. The mount is quite solid.. laminated aluminum plates bolted directly to the body behind the taillight lens and a right-angle bracket with the standard 3/8x24 to SO239 fixture. By itself it's a decent ground, but I added short length of 8g wire as well. I tuned the 20m resonator to the phone part of the band and brought the 706mkIIg up to 50% power. In a few minutes I worked several states and a couple of DX stations with excellent reports. The 40m and 75m resonators provided similar results as well. Even though I needed to swap coils to change bands I was quite happy with the antenna.... until it started raining. The past couple of weeks have brought us very wet weather and put an end to my /m operation. The SWR on the 20m coil went sky high. I double and triple check the connections and grounds.. they were fine. The resonant frequency of the antenna had dropped by over 1MHz. I whacked a fair amount of the "stinger" off to retune the antenna and the best I was able to achieve was about a 2.5:1 match and now my contact attempts result in "I can hear you in there OM, but you're just not making it over the noise". This might be an excellent antenna if you live in an arid climate, but here in New England where it's not very dry there may be better choices. I'll be picking up the screwdriver this week.. hopefully it will prove a bit more useable.
