Over rated Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
AVOID.

Repackaged version of the poor performing RF-2900.
Poor image rejection. Offers good reception of medium to strong AM stations on MW and SW. Other than that, its "drift city" with constant "Phantom" signals. Useless for utility stations. For a few bucks more - buy a used Icom 720 and get superior reception with transmit capabilities.

Outstanding in it's day! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned this radio for many years and for it's day..it was a great all around radio.Sure, today we have better equipment but none as impressive! One man's junk is another man's treasure. I would never sell it.

Not THAT good! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I worked for a large Panasonic dealer during the time this radio was being sold and I must disagree with the other reviewer.
This was an OK receiver, not good, and certainly not good enough for ham use.
It's hard to be specific after about 15 years but I do remember this radio was one of the greatest "big empty box" radios of all time! one board for the radio, one area for the small power supply and a small board for the control and readout. It was big, and about six pounds! It had dial backlash that was terrible, the bfo drifted, the "narrow" was an audio filter, in short a very average general coverage shortwave receiver with OK broadcast band performance.
It ended up as my garage radio for BC and some monitoring of shortwave BC.
When put side by side with my FRG-7, the "frog" blew it away.
I have seen these for sale from between $100 to $400, a big range due to the fact that if you used one you know what it's worth, and if you never have it's impressive looks are decieving.
Panasonic made a smaller version of the exact same radio in a smaller case that was a RF2900,
.......I think. Buy that one as it's less impressive looks do not bring a large price tag, and you will have the same radio.

IF YOU ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO LOCATE ONE OF THESE DON'T HESITATE TO PURCHASE IT. YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED.
