Shorted Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought one of these GumDrop mounts for my HF mobile antenna. I typically throttle the output power on my Yaesu FT-857d down to 80 watts. In the middle of a 20 meter SSB QSO, the SWR went crazy and the QSO ended. I was very surprised when, after testing everything else, I tested the gumdrop and sure enough, it was shorted. The gumdrop appears to be a robust little mount but something is not well built inside. Buyer beware.

Dead Shorted Out! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Brought 3 to use on vehicle and on tripod for "Ham stick" HF Mobile "HamTenna" Whip. 1 and then 2 promptly shorted out when applied up to 100 watts. "HamTenna" whip is rated for 250 watts PEP but--- "GumDrop" isn't at 100 watts! MFJ Catalog doesn't state max watts for "GumDrop" mounting. Even installed one on Tripod with radial wire, ground and balun choke using "HamTenna" 20 meter stick--including using HF Tuner. Both shorted out. Probably melted inside between SO-239 and 3/8-24. MFJ Fooled me; looked like a good solid product, but, no-way just cheap for the price. Too good to be true, my 2 out of 3rd "GumDrop" mount shorted out so, my 3rd one will too. Beware of MFJ products that look simple and "tough" but are just cheap.
