Review Summary For : Edison Fong UHF Base - 5db Gain
Reviews: 1MSRP: 43
Description:
Available in both HAM (440-450 MHz) version or Commercial version (450-470 MHz). Designed by Dr. Ed Fong WB6IQN of Univ. of California (formally at Berkeley and presently at Santa Cruz - Silicon Valley). This antenna offers +5dB gain over a ground plane and has no ground radials. It is only 4 feet tall. Perfect for repeaters, backup repeaters, portable repeaters or base station. It has a small foot print and therefore can withstand 150MPH winds. It is basically a 2 element vertical phase collinear but with very low loss coupling elements.

Not much more positive to add to Ed Fong's other antenna reviews. This one goes together smoothly in his recommended thin-wall PVC, and mounts or hangs from about anything, making an HT sound like a mobile to a 1/4 wave. SWR is so low I had to take a reading with a second SWR meter to be sure. I did have one small build problem in that the SO-239 in the end cap became loose after assembly, and would twist when tightening on coax line. Insure it is snug with pliers after receipt in USPS mail, and perhaps drop a few drops of epoxy into the space where SO239 connector meets the PVC inside the cap.
