| Running fine after 3 years |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I bought this radio from a local ham shop, and it's been running fine for over 3 years now.
I've used it extensively as a base unit, packet, and mobile for many Public Service events. No problems with Intermod and worked fine into repeaters that others could not reach with their rigs.
It even runs fine off a Cigarrette lighter without alternator whine! Very happy with it. |

| Ground loop causes whine. |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I bought the unit to replace the Radio Shack HTX 252 I had returned. I have no problems with it. I paid a car stereo place to install it. The tech found a 12 volt bus fed by a 10 guage wire under the dashboard and I approved it for the power connection. (It is a used police car.) With help of another MAC member with an SWR/RF meter, I measured 52 watts to the antenna.
A friend, also a MAC member, had a whine in his 2100H. He had wired it directly to the battery terminals. He found that removing it from the mounting bracket and letting it lay on the seat of the car got rid of the whine. He remounted it using rubber grommets to insulate it from the frame of the car. No more whine. |

| Excellent Rig! |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| I bought this rig new in '96. I never got around to actually mounting it in my car untill about 2000, so it was bouncing around on the floorboard all that time. I've seen reviews of a great deal of intermod, but I've not experienced them, traveling through downtown Houston, LA, and San Diego several times... I've also experienced no heating problems, and I now run this rig as a base unit, as I've upgraded to an IC 2800H in the car... This rig is simple, sturdy, and it sounds great. I've never gotten a bad audio report on this rig!!! It has been abused a great deal in it's life, and it is still going strong! |

| bad receive, bad heat problems. |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
I had a Yaesu Ft-2400, and loved it, but I ended ups selling it, and then I bought the IC-2000, and regretted it instantly.
I got it home, and connected it to my Ringo Ranger @ 50ft, and almost instantly, it got hammered with intermod. I could hear several local police and fire depts from 154-155 mhz mixed in with hams. I called Icom, and they told me there was a fix for it, soI sent it in. When I got it back, it was deaf as a rock, signals that were full quieting on my HT were weak on the 2000, and weak signals on the handheld weren't there at all on the 2000. I ended up selling it after a few months, and eventually bought the replacement radio, the IC-2100, and I will give it a 5/5 rating. Too bad it took them two tries to get it right. |

| Excellent Radio |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| Bought it new in 94 or 95 not sure which, bad memory on my part. Never had a single problem with this radio. It spent two years in the shack as my primary ragchew rig on 2, then it became mobile and has been there ever since. This radio outlasted two used vehicles, to bad the vehicles werent as tough as this radio. Great bang for the buck rig, once mobile and started using more often on 50 watts i decided to put a fan on it just because of the things i have heard about his radio over the years and heat related damage. Mine still shows about 54 watts out on the old bird wattmeter, and receive is still within spec when it was new. Guess it just matters how you take care of it. |

Radio worked great for 3 years. Then I had trouble reaching repeaters .25 miles away. checked out put less then 1 watt. Radio was not obused. I started to hear of other people that were also have the same problem. When they started making 50 watt radio they begain to have out put problems. People have told me to leave the radio on lower power. Don't use the 50 watts. I have 30 year old radios that still work! 100 Hz PL only or no PL.
This is the secound Icom I had trouble with. I don't mind paying a little more if the radio is more releable. Won't buy another Icom! |

| Intermod city |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I bought one of these a few months after it came out, and in the car, with a poor antenna, it wasn't all that bad. I heard a couple of pagers I didn't hear when I had my previous radio, a Yaesu FT-2400, but it wasn't that bad.
Then, I put it on my "ringo ranger" that's at the top of my tower, about 50 ft up. Every 20khz, there's the local weather station at 162.55mhz, mixed with several different strong local signals. I called Icom, and they said there was a mod to fix the problem, so I sent it in, and waited a couple of weeks for it to come back, and finally, it did..
And it was totally deaf, the IM was gone, but so was most of the sensitivity! I kept it a while, and sold it to someone who still has it in a mobile. I was going to buy a Yaesu FT-2500, but ended up with an Icom 2100, and it's great! |

| pros and cons |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| I have had mine in service on a daily basis for three years and early on the power button broke off. It is held in place by two thin plastic lines formed along with the stamped out face of the radio. No way to repair it. I have to switch the radio on and off using the power supply now. Sometimes on keying up the mike, the audio output is completely missing, but you just have to re-key the mike and then the audio is there again. I have a gain antenna attached to the radio and pagers are always bursting through into the ham band so I bought a bandpass filter (DCI 1464H 144-148 200W BANDPASS FILTER) and that helped. |

| Great mobile rig, cooling problems |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| Had the radio for around 5 years in my truck and only had one problem with it. Works great, has a good ham reciever and a good air band reciever but has cooling problems. One night I burned it up running 50 watts and wasn't paying attention to how hot it was until I smelled something burning and I lost the receiver. Had to send it back to Icom to have fixed and it works fine now. My suggestion is to try to keep it on 5 or 10 watts unless nessesary for 50 watts and make sure it doesn't get too hot by keeping your transmissions short and mounting a fan on it. |

| Great radio, poor cooling |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I've had an IC-2000H for almost five years now and its never done me wrong. It does get hot, so I just put a fan on it...no big deal. I operate mostly on 5 to 10 watts, and it stays relatively cool.
I haven't had any problems with interfearance with this radio, and I get compliments on my audio on repeaters. This rig isn't quite as tough as teh FT-2500, but it meets all of my needs. I also have never had a problem with the nobs and buttons wearing out. Good radio, but its still a big pricy compared to the new sub-$200 radios that have come out.
