Update of my Pro 7 headset Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I wrote a previous post about the Pro 7 headset that i purchased.
Headset continues to preform amazingly.
This headset goes with me for EVERY contest I work and use it for tough contacts at home and portable operation.
I get through pileups using the headset because my stock mic's do not.
I have the adaptors for my Ten Tec, my TS480 and 857 radios.

Pulling weak signals out of the noise for DX and then making contact when i have no signal just LOUD clear audio to make the QSO !
What a rush, Thank You Bob Heil!

The headset system may be bulky to transport but
for me, making the contact and having the audio stay up longer during QSB conditions makes it worth it.

Proset 7 & HC-74: A+ industrial strength, high quality headset Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have been a fan of Bob Heil's Amateur Radio products for over 18 years - time sure does fly!! I have purchased/used at least 20 different Heil Microphone/Headsets during this time period, and most recently I have been enjoying the new Heil Proset 7. This unit is built like a TANK, has superb noise isolation (important in a multi-operator environment) and I have been able to wear the headset for hours without fatigue. Recently I was given the opportunity to test out Heil's new HC-74 Mic element with this headset and I am enthusiastic to finally find an "HC4" upgrade with the HC-74. The HC-74 has a slightly more refined sound yet it keeps that razor sharp high frequency response that the DXing and contesting community seeks. It is every bit as punchy as the old HC4 without some of the "nails on the chalkboard" harshness...

I have been using this Proset 7 / HC-74 element combination with my Yaesu FTDX-5000 and I have had excellent results.

Update Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is an update of my Nov 23 review.
Much to Bob Heils Credit he contacted me directly to try and cure my issues. We played phone tag a couple times then I just got real busy and we never connected.

I have played with both sets of these we bought and have got them to where we can at least use them for 3 or 4 hours without getting a headache, but still not my favorite headset.

The connector on the side (I am assuming they are still making them the same)is constantly an annoyance because the assembly just sticks out so far.

I had actually sold both my pro 5 headsets when I purchased the PRO 7s. Well I went searching and found another set of PROset 5 that I use for those long stretches.
I would give these a 3.5 if I could so I will round up to a 4.

For me personally the cost to value just isn't there unless your using in a very noisy environment, then yes these are great for passive noise reduction.

Love most of Heils products, just not this one.

HUGE Performer Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I was a little unsure on spending $250.00 on this item, but soon learned it was the best purchase I've made in a while.
I used an external mike that came with the Omni VII. All the time I was hearing complaints about my audio, too loud or too soft.
Now with this Pro 7, every time I make a contact, the first thing I'm told is how good the audio is. I have NO special items in the audio chain, just the direct hook up to my Omni VII. Granted using a fixed boom mike on the headset is better, but being told that the audio is nice and clear is a game changer.
Stay with the black model and don't pay xtra for the colors.

Great sound and oh so comfortable Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Okay, maybe a 4.5. The phasing switch failed early on. Returned to Heil for repair under warrantee. Yes, a bit of a hassle, but it's been flawless ever since.

That said, this headset is worth the money. I do live and studio audio on the side, with my choice of headphones. The high isolation and great response of these cans would make them a great choice for live sound. They compare favorably to my Senheiser 280s.

I use the electret mic. element with my Icom 7100. Positioned just below my mouth, the sound is great without plosives (pop, breath, sibilance). This mic. does not need much equalization to get a great sound.

What's really exceptional about this headset is the long-term comfort. Though it looks bulky, the Pro 7 is incredibly light. Generous padding around the ears and headband make for hours of comfortable QSL. If they are a little tight or lose, just bend the headband (gently!) to make them "just right" just for you.

The headset comes with cloth covers for the headphones, but I don't use them. They force the headphones to sit on your ears, not around them. Uncomfortable, and ruins the isolation. Unless you're worried about ear couties, leave these in the box...

In summary, the Pro 7 is a wonderful headset for the serious ham. Arguably one of the best upgrades you can make to your amateur radio enjoyment.

Great choice for my first set Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just got this headset after reading several reviews of these and others. It was a big plunge for me, but I've been sold on the Heil reputation for a long time and it was really nice to have some questions personally answered by Bob.

I've only had them for a few days, but I love the way they fit over my ears. They're built solid, but not too heavy for my head and they're well balanced. I tried the cloth covers as some other reviewers have, but I opted to save them for warmer weather.

I absolutely love the sound quality coming through the speakers, and the first time I used them during a net I received immediate positive reviews of the mic sound quality. I was told the on-air sound was "great" and "terrific" by people I've never talked to before. After listening to a recording of my transmissions I was equally impressed.

I worked in broadcasting many years ago, and I learned the value of quality sound equipment. I'm very satisfied with this purchase, and I believe this headset will provide many years of frequent use. I was also impressed that the manual provided me with recommended settings for my radio. I set it up according to the manual prior to ever using the headset and I don't think I'll change anything.

Thanks Bob!

Amazingly great headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
WOW! I finally got around to ordering the Heil Pro 7 with the cables that Bob Heil recommended to me back in September through email conversations. What a GREAT headset!!! I am finally able to understand most HF signals well enough to get back on some voice, checking into a couple of nets regularly again from my Icom 718. I have a significant hearing problem, but not with this headset. I also tried the Heil Pro 7 on my Kenwood TM-V708A with the other cable I ordered and again WOW! It took a bit to set up, as NOTHING in my shack is "normal" HI HI HI. Once I looked at the book, it was easy. What a great piece of equipment for every shack to have and every go kit!

Thank you Bob Heil for your recommendations, it greatly helped me make the right decision on what to get. I appreciate the guidance through quick response emails and the quality piece of hardware for my shack. Oh, I ordered another HT headset so I would have one for each of my two most used HTs and I ordered the foot pedal. On days I can feel my feet I will use it for the few contest I do along with Field Day. Who knows, I may get more active on HF now. HI HI HI I will definitely use it for our storm team as net control, keeping my hands free to write or type storm reports and getting the into to the local TV station and regional NWS.

I ordered from Main Trading Company in Paris, TX. What an outstanding bunch of people! They kept me informed through the whole process, as they had to order the color of headset I wanted. A great companion business for Heil.

Update from Nov. 24 Review Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
CQWW CW is now past and I said I would give an updated review after using the Pro-7 during the contest. At first after a while my left ear hurt but my right ear didn't.

So I made some adjustments to the left side adjustments and lo and behold no more ear hurt. I wore the headset during CW Ops last Wednesday night and also this weekend during the 160 Meter contest. Both ears suffered no ill effects from wearing the headset.

I am very well pleased with the headset. You need to be patient and even the little adjustments that you make can make a world of difference. I am not sorry I purchased the Pro-7.

Great Headset Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Excellent audio quality and passive noise reduction. The headset is heavy but sits well and is comfortable even for extended periods, though may be much less comfortable in hot weather. I find it more comfortable to omit the fabric covers.

I have used these on several occasions while operating a run-and-gun rover station, and they were exactly the right for that use: the road noise, wind, and discussions of the driver and navigator were very well quieted, making it much easier to hear the weak signals.

Great Headset Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently purchased the Pro7 headset to replace the Pro Set Elite headset that I have been using with my iCOM 7600 and iCOM 7700. Although the headset appears to be bulky, it's comfortable and balanced. The receive and transmit audio is superb. The ear pads effectively eliminates outside noise which in turn, makes contacting stations easier...especially in a noisy environment. The accompanying manual calls the Pro7 "The Boss". Well, in my opinion, they are. Great job by Dr. Heil and his engineering staff.
