Description:
The Pro 7 offers a feature set that compliments the Heil Sound standard for headset design. Unlike copies of various aviation type headsets, the PRO 7 is not a copy.

Great Headset Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have the Heil Pro 7 for a little over 6 months and am very satisfied with the performance. Great noise cancelling, so good in areas where back ground noise is present. I have gotten many compliments on the sound quality of my audio and the receive portion of the headset works like a charm to pull out stations when QSB is high.

Good but could be improved Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased the Heil Pro 7 for comfort and quality. A few months ago I had purchased a Heil Proset Elite headset. It worked fine but it was not comfortable since it pressed against your ears. I had used aviation headsets that had large cups that pressed beyond your ears and they were comfortable. The Heil Pro 7 looked similar to aviation headsets and it proved to be just as comfortable. I am pleased with preformance and quality.

On the negative side, there is a connector that plugs into the bottom on one side and sticks down more than 1 ½ inches. That connector pokes and rubs on your shoulder. Not comfortable. It does look like Heil could have placed this connector in another spot.

solid Headset for noisy environment e.g. MM contesting Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had the chance to use the new Pro 7 now for a little while and I like the solid design and the gel cushions are comfortable. The audio is excellent and the microphone seems to be good as well. I received on my TS-590S and on an FT-1000MP excellent reports.
The headset itself is a real aviation style design and if you search for "FARO G2-PNR aviation headset" you know why. I assume Heil is using their own electronics, as they also did with the Pro Set Elite (original Hardware: Yoga CD-300M).
I would probably not upgrade from an Pro Set, because I like the Elite also, but if you look for a passive noise reduction this headset is your choice.
The only negative impression I do have is the same I have for all headsets: on hot days I start to sweat :D
But I cannot blame the Pro 7 for my transpiration...
I had no quality issues so far and can recommend it.

Poor QC, obviously rushed to market Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
As a couple others have commented, the Pro7 headset is definitely not Heil quality. Out of the box a dead mic + an intermittent Soft Touch PTT switch. A replacement mic arrives, then there's an intermittent connection on the boom. Gee whiz, does anyone QA this stuff? After 2 months of ownership an intermittent solder connection on the back of the micro xlr plug of the straight cable (turn your head and 1 earphone drops out). Calls to Heil got all this replaced, including an eventual total product replacement, yet the replacement Soft Touch PTT button exhibits the exact same intermittent operation as the first one and is thus unusable. Plan on using VOX or buying the accessory hand trigger or footswitch. Audio reports (dynamic element) has virtually no low-end without a boost from an equalizer. By comparison, the headphone portion itself works extremely well with excellent fidelity, though overall is quite heavy, leading to user fatigue. Also heavy cord/cable strain against the mic connector to the rig (if allowed to hang down) is (IMO) likely to lead to eventual failure here as well. Very classy-looking product, but overall disappointing.

Heil Does It Again Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
As most anybody knows, owning a any kind of a headset is a big plus when you need your hands free when coping down differnent types of radio traffic. The Heil PRO-7 headset makes any radio communications more fun and enjoyable. I was impressed with the audio quality I hear and other operators reported great audio from the boom mounted micophone. The headset is a little heavier in weight than what I expected. I love the large PTT button that mine came with. Not sure if this PTT is a Heil product or not since I didn't see a manufacturer's name or number on it.
The PRO-7 also comes with two cords, one coiled, the other straight. The straight cord seems a little too stiff but I prefer using it than the coiled because it doesn't get in the way like the coiled. The only real problem I have with my PRO-7 is the release button on the cord plug. I cannot get the button to push in to properly unplug the cord to change cords. Instead, I have to unscrew the rubber housing from the metal part of the plug first, gently pulling the inner plug out that has the wires connected to it, then I am able to get that little button to release. But because I use the straight cord all the time anyway, its not that big of a deal. For someone who needs to change cords quickly, it might be more of a problem for them. I understand that Heil is in the process of improving the headset cords so hopefully that includes improving the flexibilty and plug issues also. Other than all that, I've been happy with my PRO-7. Great job Bob!

Worth every penny Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
In the short time I have owed this headset, it has been nothing but pleasure. My hearing is not as good as it use to be, but with the Pro 7 I can easily copy ssb down at s1. In addition, after making the proper adjustments to my K3, I get excellent audio reports. Thanks Mr. Heil

More Better Than Good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I love my Heil Pro 7 can, in red no less. Sound is terrific and reports of audio, running though by W2IHY 8 band/EQplus have been superlative. Yes the weight is a bit on the hefty side, but it's well balanced and I grew accustomed.

Even Better After Cord Mod Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought a used pair of Pro7's from local ham who didn't like the sound of the new mic element. I'm mainly a CW op so it's not that important to me. The receive audio is certainly tailored for communications which is nice. Very crisp and clear audio with some cool features to adjust levels and phase. The headset is reasonably comfortable for long term use (4 plus hours)once adjusted properly to ones head and ears. I have an issue with my right ear getting fatigued after long periods of use. It's not the headset as this happens with every headset I try. I use the headset without the cotton booties. This helps with my right ear issue. This headset is also very heavy and took some getting used to. I have used it in the ARRL DX CW contest and CQ 160 SSB and it performed very well. Transmit audio in the SSB contest was very good after making adjustments suggested for the K3 in the manual.

I really liked the headset but did not like the heavy duty cords that came with it. The cord rubbed my shoulder and was always in the way. I fixed that by building a new cord with light weight cable. It was easy thanks to the standard mini XLR plug. I used Mogami W2929 wire along with a new Switchcraft mini 6 pin XLR plug and appropriate headphone and mic plugs for my K3. I made a single cord that incorporates custom headphone and mic connections to the K3 front headphone jack and rear panel mic jack. No adapters required. The new cord is so extremely light and flexible you don't even know it's there. It is like I have a wireless headset!

Overall this is a very nice headset for both phone and cw. Heil claims to be working on some new cords for this and other sets. You can make your own cord for about $25 which includes buying all new parts. Less if you have some parts in stock or in your junk box.

A quality product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased my PRO-7 as soon as it hit the market and like many had the "Mic does not work". After a call to Heil and finding out why it did not work I reversed the element and went along my way until the replacement arrived. So far so good. I bought the PRO-7ic to use at our Club station at the Jerry L. Pettis VA Memorial Hospital in our new radio room. It has performed flawlessly and having the cups cover my ears completely shuts out any ambient noise from other operators working our 3 HF rigs. And by the way the mic seems to be fairly directive as it does not pick up much of the other radio room noise while transmitting. The receive and monitor audio response is very pleasant to listen to and easier to understand than the previous generic set I was using. We have other Heil double and single headsets assigned individually to our 15 plus operators and I chose to go with the newest in the Heil line up for my personal use and am very satisfied. I will be purchasing a dynamic mic element so I can switch from the ic Icom element and use the PRO-7 with other rigs like the Kenwood TS-480 in my mobile.

Update on Pro 7 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got a letter from Bob Heil explaining my Pro 7 headset problem.
I received a defective set from a very early production run.
Heil Sound was quick to respond.
I have enjoyed many of their products in the past.
