| Very please with it |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I have the 707 for several years now, well since 1999 and have just started to figure out the Cross Band Repeat. My Kenwood 79A handheld works great for this set up in my pickup truck, so I thought that this would be a great idea to use in the van where the 707 is and on the local repeater while in the store with a HT. I am sure that the 147.180 repeater owner would not have any problems with this (since I am the owner). My question is I did like the manuel said with the cross band from UHF to VHF but it didn't work, or is it not really a cross band.
Please help
Jim

| Great Mobile Rig! |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
I received the TM-G707A as a Christmas present in '03. I have used this rig for mobile and base operations. It has never given me any problems, and has always punched through loud and clear. With power selectable on 2 meters at 50/10/5 watts and 70 centimeters at 35/10/5 watts, you're prepared for almost anything. I have been net control station with this rig twice so far, once from the upstairs of my house, another time from the basement of my house. Works great on battery or power supply.
I have used the rig combined with the Arrow Antenna for satellite operation and have made an abundant amount of contacts on both AO-27 and SO-50 and have heard the International Space Station on several occasions from different locations around the country.
I would reccomend this rig to anyone looking for a good high-powered dual-bander that won't fill you up, never let you down (hi hi). |

| Fantastic Radio! |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I bought this radio because I wanted a full-featured dual-band radio with a single VFO display and a control head that was remote mountable. The TM-G707A was my answer, both in price and reliability. However, don't lose the remote control head because Kenwood doesn't sell replacements! Lose the head and you've got no radio...ever.
I installed the TM-G707A in my Toyota 4Runner with the radio located underneath the driver's seat, and the control head mounted in the ashtray using a home-made plexiglas bracket.
The orange display is nice, bright, and large enough to make it very easy to read in all types of lighting conditions. TX quality is good and I always get nice signal reports. I wish there were more power settings available besides L=5W, M=10W, and H=50W. It would have been nice to have a 25W setting for medium power instead. With the radio located underneath my seat, RX audio was a problem so I installed a small extension speaker in the dash (which is a good idea in the vehicle anyway).
Programming the memories is somewhat intuitive, but erasing them was impossible to figure out without the manual. Accessing the other features was a bit tricky using the MENU and/or F buttons. You need the manual.
The microphone is a bit larger than I would like and prefer the smaller version used in the TM-241A. It seems like Kenwood has decided to use bigger micrphones in their newer models. The volume knob seems rather small, but I can live with it.
In summary, I'm quite happy with it. It does everything I wanted in a dual-band, single VFO radio. I'm a happy Kenwood customer! |

| Awesome rig! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I've had mine for a couple weeks now and I'm completely satisfied with it. No problems at all. I'm often pleasantly surprised at both the sensitivity and selectivity of its receiver, as well as its transmit capability - it's got big ears and a big mouth to match! This is the best VHF and/or UHF mobile rig I've ever used, hands down. If you don't need cross-band repeat, this is the one for you. |

Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
Even though hro claimed they had no stock
juns had thirteen in stock, and i purchased
the radio at juns in culver city ca.This is
the best and the most liked mobile radio since
the mid seventies kenwood tr-7400a the
kenwood g-707 has an big display and supposedly
is scratch resistent the radio looks and feels
rugged and i have known fellow hams who have the
radio that stand by it and claim its an good
radio and reliable compared to kenwoods other
dual band radios, even the reviews i read on here
are mostly good reports, the g-707 has been out
for an while now since 1998,1999,i have not
heard any complaints:
The g-707 is still easy to program and they
seem to have fixed th mic problems kenwood
was having although it still stiff and your
thumb will get sore after an while compared to
lets say an adi mic! its nice not to have to
worry about the duplexer because it is built
in.The tuning knob is kind,a uncomfortable
and stiff because of its detent tuning knob
and it can hurt your fingers from its rough
ridges on the knob but after turning several
times it seems to break in and turn more
smoothly like well not as comfortable as an
adi ar-147 for an example,so thats about it
so far,i simply like the radio 73,s kk6nj, kc6hfh:

| Great radio! |
Time Owned: 6 to 12 months. |
I bought this radio for the shack just over a year ago wantign a dual bander and after reading reviews it seemed like just the radio for me. Well, I'm not disappointed. It doesn't have dual recieve, but I didn't want that anyway I just let it scan the memory frequencies I like, when I'm talking with some one I don't want the other side coming up anyway that distracts me bad. The mic is great for some one with big hands like myself, the receive audio is great with my radio shack external speaker, I haven't tried the internal speaker yet honestly I just like the rad shack speakers for UHF/VHF always have, and the receiver doesn't pick up any intermod even around my house. I had an IC-2100H in here before and the Kenwood TM-G707A hears better, runs a lot cooler, and for me, is just a all around better radio. In fact, I just recently bought another one for the car though I haven't put it in yet. It's easy to use, I get great reports, first day I used it some one told me they didn't know what I did different but stick with it because I sounded a lot better then before.

| Great Radio |

This is an update to my first review and since, have purchased a second 707A.
My display is not washed out. Intermod, you will most likely find with any 2/440 rig out there, when you get into downtown areas. My 707's once in a while get a blurb from a pager or crosstalk from a commercial service, but only downtown. Intermod is something you almost have to expect with multiband radios that do not have helical resonators in their front ends for added selectivity.
The amount of current drain for the mic backlighting is not of any major consequence. Even for "Emergency Operation", this adds almost nothing in the way of battery drain. An unsquelched receiver will draw more current than the mic backlighting.
Power levels, why do you need more than 3. This range gives you plenty of choices.
This radio is well built. Neither of my two have had ANY problems. One in the car and one in the office. I do not use any scan function, nor do I care about cross band. So what if I have to use an extra push of the button to go through all three frequency ranges. No big deal at all. I have aircraft frequencies plugged into the base rig and no police/fire stuff, they are 800Mhz anyway. This rig is solid, does what it advertises and at a relatively low cost.
AM Aircraft sensitivity is better than most Kenwood radios. FM quality is great. I do have to agree, that in an inside shack (with low background noise, the audio level at minimum is a little loud. Mobile this is not a problem.
Easier to program repeater offsets than my 756 Pro..!
The audio level glitch is the only thing I can fault Kenwood for on this radio. Remotable, useful and reliable. What else can one ask for. And....I like 3 power levels. If I had a need for another 2/440 radio, it would certainly be another TM-G707A...and from AES.

I was so unhappy with mine, I bought a second. This one is inside, replacing the TM-241 whose battery died, and upon replacement, both ribbon cables snapped..! So...TMG-707A #2 is happy inside. I notice that the low end sensitivity for aircraft is much better than the 241, which I reported over a year ago. The mobile did have one spot of crosstalk/intermod...but then again, I was under tha antenna transmitting over 200W of RF, so, I am not surprised at the problem. A block away, the problem was gone...even though the transmitter was still going.
All in all, readability, usefullness, controls and lighting...this rig is one of the best. Now have the Diamond X-50NA tied to it inside, and I must say that that combo, really is nice. Hear more, hear better than previously. Even hear more/better on 2M than the TM-241..!

Compared to the TM-241, this receiver is great. Sensitivity on aircraft band is much improved as it is on normal 2M VHF.
Mounted above the steering column in my 2000 Grand Prix (with Radio Shack remote speaker and radio under the seat) this is a great little radio. Easy to remove control head so you can stash somewhere else. Antenna is glass mount for 2/440 and works very good. Would recommend this unit over most others..!
Would recommend not using a cigarette lighter plug. Go to a good solid 12V source for the radio. Agree with comments about lighting.

| Good value |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
| I have owned one of these for about four years. My wife is a ham and she picked it out for her car. We installed it permanently with the remote head kit in her Monte Carlo. She loved the large display. For the past 6 months I have had it in my shack. The radio has never given us problems mobile or in the shack and I'd recommend it to others looking for a dual-bander without all the wizz-bang APRS or "true dual-bander" features. |
