solid rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
was out of the hobby for a number of years....got back into it, and the bug hit me hard...nice thing about life after college, the budget often increases, and i found myself wanting and able to afford a nice rig to replace an aging workhorse, the htx202
going into it, i decided that this rig was what i wanted....good price, favorable reviews, good features all around. the only thing i might wish for out of the box is wider recieve range (i bought a vx5 shortly after this, and i believe the bands the vx picks up are wider). aside from that, no major gripes whatsoever. i dont do well with car wiring, so i had a local chain run the cable, took 5 minutes and a nominal fee....and i rigged a spot under a seat and did so with no drilling (thank god for wire ties).......very solid, nice display, all around very nice.
recommend buying an external spkr if mounting out of the way, and just a little input----if you buy the remote mount kit, you might not necessarily need to extend the mic as well...at least not by buying the cable. by using a male to male rj 45 type coupler, and a cat 5, rj45 terminated wire designed for digital phones, i was able to extend my mic for under 5 bucks...so far, no problems:)

Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use this radio as a base unit it performs flawlessly and I have made contacts several hundred miles away on several occasions. In short I love the radio,I would buy another if needed in the blink of an eye.It is very simple to program,Not a quality I have found in the Yaesu which I also own.I researched this radio long and hard before I bought it and I am very pleased with it and have no complaints at all!!!

Not disappointed Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use the TN-G707A in my pickup and I have never had a problem with it. The display is nice and large and programing it is a breeze. The only thing I don't like is the PTT is a little stiffer than I like it to be. Other than that, it is a good buy.

Nice rig!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I purchased this radio in July 2001 to replace/retire my TM-701A which became totally deaf on 440. This is one sweet little radio! The xmit audio is very crisp, and the supplied hand microphone is large enough that you do not need a magnifying glass and a special tool to operate the backlit DTMF pad! The display is large, and very easy to read with the backlight brightness being adjustable on the front of the radio. Programming is very simple, in fact, I was programming memories within minutes of powering up the rig for the first time. I use it mainly base, but it has been mobile a few times and seems to perform well. The receive sensitivity is decent using nothing more than a dual band mag-mount on my vehicle. I've not really noticed any intermod on this rig.
Also, it can be easily modified to receive the 800 mhz public service band as well as military aircraft (300-400 mhZ), so you virtually end up with a 5-band radio! For less than $300, you can't go wrong with this radio.

Best Rig for the Money! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I was trying to think of things I dis-liked about this rig...GEEZ, NOT MUCH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. My hearing isn't great, so the addition of a $10.00 Radio Shack speaker made this rig perfect for me. It has performed perfectly from day 1. I would strongly reccomend this rig!

Very nice radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The only reason I am not giving this radio a 5 is because I have experienced what some others have with the audio. I have been told a couple times on more distant repeaters that my audio was a little low. I may need to open it up and turn it up a little. I bought mine used for $255, not a bad deal.

It has all the usual bells and whistles to include 180 memory channels and a call channel. Output power 5/10/50 (35 on 70cm). RX covers the usual expanded RX range to include AM RX on the aircraft bands (you can't transmit on AM). The fan runs, as other reviews state, but it is not annoying. As a matter of fact, it's nice to know my rig will stay cool. The PL decode feature is nice since I use this radio as a base and when conditions enhance 2 meters and new repeaters pop up, I can easily get into them. I really can't think of anything negative to say other than the audio reports, but those were on distant repeaters.

If you are considering buying one, I'd do it. Right now Kenwood still sells this rig, which means support will be available for a while and it should be fairly reliable since they are fairly new radios.

Excellent Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Very nice Mobile. Excellent Recieve on Ham as well as the "extra" bands. Excellent audio (standard for Kenwoods) and build very solid. I have owned it for 6 months and have had nothing negative to say about it. Go Buy One!
I also own a Yeasu FT-2400 which is another nice radio, but the Kenwood is the new primary radio in my house.
Super easy to read Alphnumeric Display.
Great job Kenwood!

Good First or Second Radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
It is a lot of radio for the money!

I thought that it would not have many features because of the low price, but that is not true.

There are many useful features. If you like bells and whistles, it has them. However, if you like to keep things simple, it does that well too.

The built-in speaker is lame, but the audio is great if you use an inexpensive external speaker.

The remote wiring kit works well and has ferrite chokes to help remove noises picked up on the wires.

Mine has a bad 'birdie' at 145.800, but that is not too much of a problem for me.

Unless you get a 'lemon' (which is possible with ANY brand of anything), you can't go wrong.
