Pioneer SSB exciter of the 1950s Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Although the CE 20A is far better known, the company produced an earlier phased SSB exciter called the 10A. This was a complicated little exciter that I managed to get hold of as a poor HS student with a ham radio obsession about 1959. I cobbled up a linear using 4 6L6 tubes in grounded grid and put the 10A on the air. I should have kept it (I have no idea where it went... my parents moved when I was overseas and it disappeared in Spokane, WA in the 1960s). I coupled it with a modified BC458 VFO and used it 'til I went off to school and then work.
