Best All Around Ham/SWL Magazine Time Owned: more than 12 months.
If I were stranded on an island with my ham rig and Sony 2010, I would want this single magazine.

The topics covered range from Amateur Radio to Utility monitoring. The hourly guide to SWLing is without peer. Geographic and functional topics are regularly covered. The editorials and news articles cannot be found anywhere else. Items often appear here months before other magazines print them.

While it may seem like heresy for a licensed ham to utter such words, I enjoy reading about Pirate broadcast operations and the attempts to shut them down. I do not advocate breaking the law or even support the agendas of the Pirate stations, but I find it a monthly fun read.

The ham topics are generally for beginners; however, there are enough antenna articles to challenge even the oldtimer.

I am amazed how many hams have never heard of this publication. It is on many news stands and there is a very good web site for the magazine.

The magazine has something for everyone in each issue. I have cut down my ham/swl magazines to QST and Monitoring Times.

Check out a current issue and get ready to be impressed. It is more than you expect.
