It hears very well Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This receiver is a better performer than most vintage receivers of same era- so it gets a 5 rating. I read the British used these receivers during WWII.
Only down side is it does not have a direct frequency readout. I also wish it has PP audio output, but the audio is crystal clear.

6 Star performance Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this ( HRO 5 TA1 1946 ( HRO W ) on the back panel with antifungus yellow treatment on the chasis ) radio more than a year side by side with IC 7800 and 20 meter loop antenna.

First , this radio was not designed for SSB and has a long warm up, you must do antenna matching to 300-400 ohms to full sensitivity and regulate the powwer supply to avoid inestability.

This receiver with all caps changed and properly alligned can hear less than S1 signals. On the lower bands has much less noise and much easier copy than my perfect working IC 7800 ( with or without the first preamp engaded ).. I have here also a Collins R 392 that has better sensitivity than HRO5 TA1, but it gets much more easy overloaded on the lower bands with large antennas, not the case with the HRO 5TA1!

I think a 6 star would be a good rating because a 1946 receiver can outperform a 12,000 dlls 2010 IC 7800.
