Top Quality Ham Transceiver Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Had this radio a few months now. Build nicely to enable the radio amateur to work with ease.
Good quality parts. I like being able to switch the DSP out of circuit and use the good quality filters as a analogue radio. The clean audio signal you can listen to all day without getting fatigued and the good imd3 rating and the module construction is another good thing. I'll certainly be keeping this hill billy radio radio for a long time. Giving this one top marks for the quality and has all what a ham wants in a radio.

The Hilberling is not revolutionary.I can assure you Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had the opportunity to have all the radios from the cheapest to this HILBERLING which is the most expensive. I recently acquired Hilberling PT-8000A and have been using it since. I am rather disappointed with this very expensive rig that does not deliver much in real technical advantage over its competitors..Not exactly what I would call the dream machine!! It lacks almost every where. It just appears to be an expensive big box that does not deliver out of this world performance. Its all bells and whistles and no real performance advantage

When I buy a radio that is this expensive I expected it to be the best in every area. Unfortunately its not. Its performance was poor (xmit audio, receive selectivity) Audio isn't very effective; is noticebly noisier and slightly deaf and ill defined in its audio compared with these other rigs. The Elecraft K-3 just has a better receiver and more clarity, great selectivity.

If you are considering buying this radio, be very wary and try and get to test someone other hams HILBERLING before you burn your money. When I sit in front of the HILBERLING the only thing that impresses you is the huge box and front panel everything is not much better than average. It sad that I payed all this money for this radio and i cant even find 1 feature that makes it better than any radio that I have owned over last 35 years. for the cost I really thought this would be a Lamborghini of radios. Just don't expect too much

I am sorry but for that price you can purchase something like the ELECRAFT K-3 and have a much better radio to start out with. and spare me a lot of money to go on vacation with my family anywhere in the world.

Fantastic Masterpiece of Amateur Radio Gear Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Hands down I have not owned or used a transceiver that:

- Was built to such high standards
- Performed at the State of the Art level without the support of external computing support
- Was so pleasant to listen to
- Had such a class feel while in use
- Looked as good as my Stereo (which is a Revox)
- Generated more conservation on the air or in the shack

as the Hilberling PT-8000A with HN-8000 Power Supply and T9 Dynamic Microphone.

I've been writing about its performance (subjective as a user) compared to my Flex-6x00 series radios on my blog.

The performance pros and logistics/cost cons roughly parallel a true performance car, but then so the rewards!

Exceptional Radio produced to a Stunning Level of fit & finish.
