Updated review of Zastone MP900 Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
- The Zastone is Chinese made and it shows. But don't let that phase you - there's A LOT to like here.

- Freq entry is easily done by hand (bonus: it holds 100 memory freqs on EACH band).

- Has a 'commercial' broadcast radio feature that works great, listen to FM radio and scan/monitor a ham band at the same time.

- The mic is HUGE & clunky but firm to the touch; nice big keypad, up/down channel selector, and it's backlit. Turn the backlight on/off and lock the display directly from mic switches. FM freqs can be controlled at the mic too.

- Display easy to read + separate volume/squelch and scan controls for each band. The 'main band' is switched by pushing in on the freq selector or the "A" button on the mic face.

- Seems to transmit with the power it claims, haven't officially measured it. One thing about the power setting I don't like is that for memory mode it's entered with the freq, no way to change it 'at will'.

- Comes with a long cable to separate the control head from the chassis (bonus: the microphone plugs into the remote head, not the radio). Control head comes with it's own mounting bracket. Even though the mount is plastic the head is very light and would be fine if done with care. The little control head would even fit in a glove box.

- The audio is |good and loud| but use an external speaker to help with the sound quality... the internal speaker sounds tinny and thin (radio has 3.5mm speaker jack). As for volume, the complaint would actually be that the audio doesn't turn down low enough - even at it's very lowest setting it is quite loud!
