Amazing Performer in a Small Package			Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This antenna system uses a configuration that I have never seen before, and the result is truly amazing. The radiator is a dipole of 16 feet length, made from metal and fiberglass tubes which snap together with shock cords. When broken down, the length is about 3ft, which fits easily into the carrying bag together with the 10ft tripod-mounted mast that comes with the antenna. At the center feed point of the radiator is a match box containing inductors, capacitors, and latching relays, like in an auto-tuner - however, unlike your typical auto-tuner, the control logic that determines the best LC combination for the lowest SWR on a given frequency, is in a special version of the iPX30 antenna analyzer. The analyzer powers the switching network and "talks" to it over the coax cable (there is a 25ft coax cable with a current balun that comes with the antenna) - so the matching is done at the center of the dipole, and the determinnation of the best LC combination is done by the iPX30 analyzer at the end of the coax. When the analyzer has found the best match you just remove it from the coax - the matching network uses latching relays which don't require power after they have switched (the analyzer uses a standard 9V battery). The iPX30 can also be used as a simple SWR analyzer with any other antenna. The total weight of the antenna, plus tripod mast, plus coax with balun, plus analyzer in the carrying bag is about 11 pounds, and it can be deployed in almost any location in a matter of minutes. The frequency coverage is from 14-30 MHz, and the analyzer will usually find a match with a 1.4:1 or better SWR in a few seconds and remember the setting per band, for an almost instantaneous band change later on. The performance for a shortened dipole at low height is truly amazing - from my lawn I easily got into Europe and South America with excellent signal reports. Since the weight and the wind resistance of the radiator is low, I will try it at greater height on a Jackite fiberglass pole for possibly even better results. But even with the short tripod mast this antenna is a really good performer and will be in my bag for the next DX expedition.
