Don't waste your money Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Lets call it what it is .. poor quality control. Do not buy the CCrane 3 as well as it is the same thing, just with bluetooth. So I really want to love this radio but it has issues, mostly quality control issues and some interface issues. First as you can see in other reviews the buttons are very suspect and really they cannot be fixed, yes being a ham we look. My tune buttons do not work so on MW I have to tune in 1 kHz steps, very very tedious. The radio is plastic with very poor construction. Second .. you often have to do things multiple times before it works. Third .. who wants to see the clock ? I want to see my frequency and if I want to see the time I can press a button. But having the frequency go away all the time is really a very dumb idea. I will not buy another CCrane product again until they fix their issues as honestly their stuff is just overprices Chinese junk that could be a lot better. I think that many of us would pay more for a quality product but this is not it.

It works well... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
... but...

Actually, this is a damned good radio and even on MW alone, it is about as good as it gets among all other portables made today. I dare say (as a MW DX nut) it is almost on par with my Panasonic RF2200 (which is always rightly aligned and in perfect condition and therefore is my reference MW radio). It still has some slight hiss or white noise underneath weaker signals, a bit more than any such noise in the RF2200, and it takes juuust a bit longer to really get full quieting even on FM.

But it performs beautifully on FM as well, and is a good, competent receiver for the WX and 2mtr bands. Sensitive and selective across the board, this radio is.

Talking now like Yoda, I am. :)

It betters its predecessor especially in the audio department, bringing warm, rich sound on MW and FM that is lacking on the regular 2 radio. Other improvements are more subtle but no less effective and welcome -- better AGC action and better FM selectivity than the original 2, among them.

But I cannot give this radio a 5, and in fact almost couldn't give it a 4... because unit to unit quality control is severely lacking.

I've been lucky with my personal 2E receiver, but I've witnessed numerous flaws and failures in many other 2E radios belonging to friends and family. It seems the display is a particularly weak point, from backlighting to fading characters to simply being d.o.a. one day after being perfect the night before.

Another common failure has to do with the key press response, or utter lack of response. I've seen two radios (one a 2E and the other a 2) which power on, and there is the backlight on and the time in the display... but nothing you do, push, click, tune, turn, anything, does a damned thing.

Right here on eHam.net there are reviews which go into more detail and more problems about the quality control issues.

But when it is all working right, this really should be a solid 5 performer, on every band, with every feature.

I hope they can take care of those problems and up the quality in the next CC Radio iteration (3? 2E.2? ) :)

It is a good radio and I hope they keep improving and enhancing it.

High Sensitivity and Selectivity with improved sound Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The am band has a better signal to noise ratio on very weak radio signals than both the GE Superadio 3 and the Grundig YB400PE. In fact it is better than most of whats out there. On FM the performance is also very high on this model. Even the weather band works great.

The sound is good with the 5 inch speaker, but some radios with two way speakers sound better. One significant omission is the fact that on FM, weather, and the 2 meter band there is no external antenna input.
