Review Summary For : Anytone NSTIG-8R
Reviews: 2MSRP: 120.00
Description:
VERSATILE RADIO FOR AMATEUR AND COMMERCIAL USE
The NSTIG-8R is certified for use on commercial and amateur
frequencies. The NSTIG-8R is FCC Certified for Part 90 usage
and is able to Transmit and Receive fully on Narrowband
(12.5kHz).
ACCURATE AND RELIABLE
The NSTIG-8R is the most accurate and reliable radio in its
class, with deviation at a minimum the NSTIG-8R will only
receive signals that you want. The NSTIG-8R has an accurate
receiver that will filter out any noise that is not on your
chosen frequency or squelch setting. It out-ranks any other
receiver in its class!
DUAL WATCH RECEIVER
The NSTIG-8R has one built-in receiver but can "watch" two
channels (semi duplex). Monitor two different frequencies
(even on different bands (VHF/UHF)) and the radio will
monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first
station to receive an incoming call.
FM BROADCAST STATION
Save up to 99 FM stations in preset memories so you can
instantly tune to your favorite local broadcast. You can
listen to the FM Broadcast radio, while still monitoring
your radio frequencies in the background. Any incoming call
will be given priority insuring you never miss an important
call while listening to the radio.
GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL CALLING SUPPORTED
The NSTIG-8R supports the most common Analog Tones. It
supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Set-up your
calling methods to call by individual or by group. Tone
calling (private line) is required by most commercial
applications and the NSTIG-8R supports the latest standards,
even allowing custom CTCSS Tones.

The NSTIG-8R can even decode (receive) DTMF commands. This
allows for ANI (Caller ID), Remote Stun, Remote Kill and
more.
INTERNAL VOX FUNCTION
The NSTIG-8R has an internal VOX (Voice Operated Transmit)
function for convenient hands-free operation and can be used
in conjunction with the included earpiece and mic. The VOX
level and VOX delay time are adjustable your needs.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR OPERATION WITH CHANNELS, PROGRAMMABLE
BUTTONS, AND MORE!
You can program your NSTIG-8R exactly how you want it. There
are 200 programmable memory channels. You can add or remove
channels from scanning list right on the keypad. The side
keys are programmable to multiple options including adding a
secondary (dual) push-to-talk option. You can give channels
alphanumeric names, without using a computer. The radio has
2 power levels (5 watt maximum), allowing you to choose how
far you can communicate. You can set VFO scanning limits,
and resume scanning after a power cycle. The NSTIG-8R has 2
VFO banks, and allows you to be in both VFO and channel
modes at the same time. You can easily program from a PC to
set-up the radio to operate exactly as needed.

In commercial applications you can set up radios in work
modes and customize and restrict from manual programming
modes (and menus). You can even lockout the keypad
completely.

Good HT for kicking around Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I'm pretty happy with this radio. It's solidly built, easy to program on the fly, and with a Diamond SRJ77CA antenna it'll hit a lot of the local repeaters and some not-so-local ones. My rating for this radio would be a 5 if it had Chirp support. I would love to be able to clone across my stable of HTs but I have to use the dysfunctional AnyTone software to get this radio loaded. Boo hiss. Thankfully it's a minor nit that doesn't affect the overall functionality, and I'd certainly buy it again if needed.

Better than Baofeng. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Compared to the Baofeng UV-5RA it has a much sturdier feel in my hands. Using the Nagoya NA-771 antenna the receive is better than the UV-5RA and the reports that I've had so far have been a lot better as well on the repeaters I've checked it out on. Battery life (1800 mah battery) has been more substantial as well. Running both FM broadcast radio and the local NOAA radio station as well as the backlight constantly on it has lasted over 8 hrs receive. Programming on-the-fly is a lot easier as well. Most all of the info that you would have to program can be done from the keypad without having to go into the function menu and you can even program the alphanumerics in it as well. The speaker is loud and clear at 1 watt. At full blast there is no distortion at all. This is one radio that I can rely on without wondering if the battery can handle long sessions. The idea of locking out the keypad is a very good idea for issuing out during special events or organizations like CERT etc.
