A 43 year old workhorse! I have owned mine for 32 years and have collected every accessory and option. A solid state transceiver for low-noise, low-current operation with a bullet-proof 3-tube transmitter with pi-output tuning circuit! There are 10 internal boards that hold most of the circuitry. Board extenders allow for in-circuit diagnostics. Matching station accessories and components provide 160M thru 2M operation, remote VFO, station monitoring, frequency displays, power meter, phone patch, remote speaker, desk microphone, station clock, and power amplifier. Yaesu FT-101 Repair, tune-up, and alignment shops with spare parts are still available. Lots of YouTube video content too. Just beware that high voltages exist (750 VDC) inside the FT-101 radios. Always seek professional help if you lack the tools, test equipment, or know-how. 73

The opportunity to purchase a pre-owned FT-101F presented itself; I always wanted a 101 series rig but had never heard of an 'F' model. Apparently this one was the last of the FT-101's manufactured and included all mods and updates. I get better audio reports with this rig than my newer TS-990S! And the 990S is no slouch, hi. Also, the receive audio on this old analog rig is outstanding...crisp and clear. The FT-101F, like all 101's, is built like a tank and built to last.
