Good tool when used properly Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was ready to send back the whole Coax Assembly Kit until I figured out how use the stripping tools. I was inserting the coax too far into the tool.

For the 808x model (RG-8X version of the tool) with some pressure you can get the coax all the way into the tool. When you do that, the tool doesn't work. It clogs, and the jacket isn't ejected from the cutter.

Once I figured out that you slowly push the coax in (not all the way to the end of the cavity) while turning the tool, letting the spiral cut blade pull the coax into the tool at its pace, perfect cuts occur.

This is a very good tool Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased this tool after seeing it demonstrated on the DX website. When I first used it, I was using it on LMR-400 Flex. This Coax has a multi strand center core. Maybe because this coax is made to be flexible, the outer insulation has much more give and therefore is somewhat harder to cut with an internal blade as is part of the DXE-UT-8213. It gave me fits. It would tear the outer braid and it did not perform like the video. Using care, I was able to make it work eventually.

The surprise came when I used it on the LMR-400 solid core. When preparing the solid core, it performed flawlessly. The cut was made and was ready for the PL-259 connector in less than 15 seconds, and yes, I did time myself on the last one.

This device worked a thousand times better on the solid core than the multi-strand core coax. It is definitely a tool that I will keep on hand for attaching connectors to solid core coax.

Work's Great! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got mine today from DX Engineering..I tried it on a piece of spare LMR400..I think it took about 45 seconds (if that!) to get the end ready for a PL259 connector!
Very Handy!

Just Plain Works Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got these to make some cables in the shack. This thing works like a charm. Nice clean cuts and the blades did not get dull after the first 10 connectors installed. Very easy to use and recommended to make clean solid cables. Did not have any of the problems others have listed. It's a keeper here!

Tool Works Great!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received the 8213 coax stripping tool, made up a short LM4-400 jumper cable and it worked perfectly. Slcik!!! The tool eliminates all of the problems with measuring the outer jacket , braid and center conductor lengths.

Pain free coax/PL259 prep Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had very good luck so far with the UT-8213. I've tried many different approaches to preparing coax for PL259 installation and can say that using the UT-8213 has taken away a lot of the frustration.

Simple to use and works almost as good as you see in DX Engineering's video.

I have taken some detailed photos of this product and put them on my blog:
http://www.n0hr.com/hamradio_blog/2009/01/05/pl-259s-the-easy-way-dxe-ut-8213/

I've also posted more details about this product on my ham radio reviews page:
http://www.n0hr.com/HamRadioReviews/products/2019.html

DX Engineering service has also been great in the many purchases that I have had with them.

I'm a bit baffled by the ham who rated this product with a low score and then said that he hadn't actually used it.

Much improved product Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
After waiting for DX engineering to replace the cablematic tool, the new UT-8213 arrived. I have used it repeatedly to install coax for my new vertical hf antenna. Works very well and does exactly as the brochure says. I have not seen any of the problems attributed to the older cablematic tool. Edges still cut cleanly and without trouble. I would highly recommend this to anyone putting on a lot of coax connectors.

Idiot proof -- and just what I need! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.

I am one of those guys who always buys an extra PL-259 because I know I am going to screw one up when building a cable. This tool was made for me.

Using it is dirt-simple, and it makes near-perfect cuts every time. Not only does it cut my connector assembly time in half, but I figure that it is going to pay for itself in no time. No more extra connectors -- no more screwing up the installation.

Use is limited to a few of the more common coax types and I would not try it on anything else. But with that minor limitation, it is a must-have for every ham shack.

WONDERFUL ! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I've had one of these for about 4 months now. It really gets a work out when showing how it works to my fellow radio club members. I probably have over 300 cuts on the tool so far. I purchased extra blades when I bought the tool, but have not needed them yet. Blades are just as sharp as day one. Works GREAT! No more cut fingers using a razor blade or x-acto knife! I wish I had this years ago. Every person I've shown how it operates thinks it is great. It's one of those tools you have to see in operation, and when you do, you're sold.

Look elsewhere Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I originally reviewed this tool (a repackaged Cablematic UT8000) and gave it a 4/5. After using it a little more, a 1/5 is pushing it. Since the co-ax is feed into the cutter as it cuts, the cut is spiral. This results in the strands of shield being left long and bent down in a spiral. After cutting with the DXE-UT-8213 (AKA "Cablematic UT8000), the shield strands must be straightened and trimmed with nippers before a PL-259 can be installed.

As I noted in a review as the Cablematic, the blades will dull quickly.

If you want a useful co-ax trimming tool, look toward the plastic type with multiple adjustable cutting blades as sold by AES.
