Review Summary For : Yaesu FTM-3200DR
Reviews: 33MSRP: 180
Description:
The FTM-3200DR is a ruggedly built yet compact C4FM/FM VHF mobile transceiver, providing high output power of up to 65 Watts to ensure stable long-distance communications. One of the distinguishing features of this exciting new mobile transceiver is the Front Panel Speaker delivering 3 Watts of loud and crystal clear audio; designed for stress-free and enjoyable communications - even in noisy environments.

While the new FTM-3200DR is a solid and durable transceiver in keeping with Yaesu’s legendary mechanical toughness, it also incorporates new technology such as Automatic Mode Select (AMS), one of the most advanced features of System Fusion. The AMS mode instantly recognizes whether a transmission is digital or analog, and appropriately switches the operating mode to allow flawless co-existence of both digital and analog users. The versatile FTM-3200DR transceiver also utilizes the ever-popular Digital Group Monitor (GM) function; a terrific asset allowing users to see at a glance if registered members of a group are within communication range.

Not a fan of the fan Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
It's a basic no frills radio with C4FM. Not much for creature comforts such as memory banks and temporary scan lockouts. The fan is very irregular and annoying. When sitting cool it comes on for a couple of seconds and shuts off. In the car you don't notice it but at home in a quiet environment it kind of drives you batty. Hopefully it gets fixed in a future firmware release or with a mod to keep it on full time.

not impressed :( Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
With the radio on RX Only

The fan is driving me nuts, it comes on for 1 second and off for 2-3 seconds the radio is arms length away as the mic cord is not very long, and so I can reach to controls. My FT-7900 fan is much much quieter. The radio even with the volume all the way down on a busy frequency makes this horrid clicking noise as folks key up or unkey.
Yes the Fusion works.

Low power:( Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've had this radio about 3 weeks, everything is ok BUT the power is very low.
3 WATTS on low, 15 on Med., 35 WATTS on high!?
Lucky for me I have an AMP to make up for the low power but it should do what is's advertised to do.

Dead after 10 minutes use. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got the radio setup with call and programmed 10 repeaters including fusion repeater. Put unit on scan and it froze up after a few minutes and would not respond. Reset radio and it would not program. It appears the processor is dead and will not even reset.

Sending back to HRO for refund.

Another local ham got one also and it was dead out of the box. Beware of this radio.

Great product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased 7/20/16. Easy to program manually. I didn't need the software because it's my home base unit, so only a couple dozen repeaters in the area. Good solid construction. Nice fit and finish.

Nice radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
It is nice radio and works well. Only problem is RF power out is low. Only 50 watt, supposed to be 65..
That is reason for rating..
Also have a 400 yaesu and that one puts out its rated power.

Superb Audio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is my third rig for my Echolink station. I have used Yaesu 2900 and Icom 2300H, they all fantastic rig for Echolink and I NEVER have a problem... Until system fusion came as a NEW ERA of amateur radio. I have run this rig full 65 watt for 6 hrs and NEVER had a problem. I will recommend this rig to all my friends and the price is also affordable. The audio of this rig unbelievable... Another job well done YAESU.

Excellent radio for the price Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Good solid construction, nice and loud front firing speaker, lots of features in the easy to access menus using both the front buttons and the mic, all in all a great entry level radio for hams to get into Fusion and hams on a budget too, this mobile was only $179

Update to previous review Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I my previous review I stated that the FTM-3200DR was incapable of transmitting VW mode. This is incorrect. After performing a factory reset I found that although you still cannot select VW directly, in AMS the radio will change to VW mode upon receiving a VW signal and will transmit VW in response. I apologize for any confusion, and have increased my rating to a "5".

finals burnt out Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After owning less than a month the finals went out. No tx at all. I used this on 5 watts and some on the 30 watt setting. Never on high power. My antenna and feedline swr was less than 1.3:1 at all times. Maybe 10 hours of actual key up time. Looks like its going to be another 1802. Bad for yaesu.

Myself and a friend have these radios installed in our houses. The audio is crisp and very clear on receive and transmit. Digital audio is super in my opinion. The radio has some weight to it and looks like it is derived from the commercial vertex standard.

Programming is pretty easy just like all Yeasu radios with a few more menus added. It's a little different from the other Yaesu's but not much. Nice display and when talking to my friend in digital mode on simplex it shows my call sign on his radio and vice versa.

Front speaker is loud and good quality. The fan on the back of the radio runs the whole time the radio is turned on but it's not very loud, quieter than my ft 7900. The radio has an internal airflow from the bottom to the rear of the radio using the fan. It pulls air through the radio over the circuit board to really cool it down fast. This is the feature I like the most.

Volume knob has a white line made into the knob so you can see where the volume is set...NICE.

All in all I'm very pleased with the radio and quality. Should last many years.
