Great radio – expensive but worth it. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Purchased my 910h 5 months ago. This radio is fantastic. Made several LONG distance contacts using masted mounted preamps and a 7 X 7 Element Cross Polarity beam. Contacted stations 350-450 miles away on SSB. After several hours of use at high power the radio is really warm by the connectors, but did not have any problems with power dropping. Have DSP on both the main and sub and they make a big difference.

Designed to be obsolete Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The European version of this radio has a fixed 1750Hz tone burst and CTCSS tones are not selectable for transmit. This means its not a radio to use in the UK for CTCSS controlled repeaters. Although having a reasonable amount of memories, there is no alpha tagging facility. Despite two data ports, there is no transmit facility on the sub band port. No DCS facility. Radio developed fault within first 24 hours, power would drop out between 42secs to 1 minute, even into a dummy load. After power drop-out the receive is deaf as a post. Someone else posted about the latter problem, but gave the review a '5'. Why? Take it back and get your money back, like I did. This radio seems to be designed to be obsolete and is very expensive if all the features are fitted, such as 23cms, two DSP units, TCXO, voice announcements, two CW filters. The only reason I didn't score it zero was when it did work for a while, the receive was very nice.

its only just ok Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have owned the radio for 4 months (bought new) and it does receive slighty better than my old 726R, but only slightly. If you forget the extra bells and whistles and concentrate on the receiver performance then in hind sight I should have looked else where. My radio does drift on 2/70/23 but only about 500hz which reduces to about 300hz after a couple of hours, a high stability crystal would cure this. I have the DSP fitted which does have a brilliant auto notch (big plus point)and the power output is as spec. For a radio that is 15 years younger than my old 726R I was expecting something better. Its not a donkey but its certainly no thoroughbred.

Fine Rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I think the IC910 is an excellent rig!
Very sensitive, good features.

Some small problems:

When using the rig for a while the sensitivity seems to drop, or the signal strength drops. Eg, back ground noise may be constant at S3 but under high output use for a few mins the RX signal could drop to S0.

You can not lock out unwanted frequencies in the scan list. Eg, if some one is chatting on a repeater and you dont want to listen, you cant temporarily lock it out. What I do is tune either side and reprogram the memory channel.

No real problems other than this.

Solid radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Solid radio with excellent sensitivity. It is also resistant to overload from high nearby RF. Ergonomics are excellent. Menus are easily accessed. Very good audio. The lack of an alphanumeric display is disappointing. The radio cannot be operated in a VHF/VHF mode or UHF/UHF mode. It permits VHF only, UHF only or VHF/UHF, UHF/VHF.

Transmitter performance is excellent and overall audio quality reports are very good. For the price of the radio it should include a built-in SWR meter and graphical AGL indication.

Excellent radio. A bit expensive but a powerful performer. Some feature limitations due to its dated design

USE External Pre-Amps ! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have no compalints about the IC-910H at all. I find the sensitivity to be on par with any of the current crop of rigs out there. The one thing that sets it apart from many of the others is that it is SO easy to use Icom's external mast-mounted Rx pre-amps. (Control + power go up the coax.) Any complaints about sensitivity have to be tempered by the fact that, if you're serious, you'll have a GaAs FET at the antenna, especially on 432 and up. I have both the AG-25 and AG-35 in the air, and it DOES make a difference on the weak ones, even though I have 7/8" hardline most of the way on UHF.

A GOOD VHF/UHF BASE Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
ITS A VERY GOOD AND EASY RIG TO WORK SATELLITES AND A GREAT ALL AROUND FOR RAG CHEWING. POWER OUT PUT ON VHF WAS AROUND 96W AND 72W ON UHF. SENSITIVITY WAS A DISAPOINTMENT COMPARED TO MY 275H.

Great All Mode Rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I like this rig. It does what you want and never gives you trouble. It isn't a 970H but you don't need a brick either.
