Follow on to my previous... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have heard of 4 cases plus my own now of these rigs being way off in frequency. It does seem to be a design/component quality flaw. I believe Icom will fix it for you if you send it in for warranty repair, but why would you want to buy a new radio and then send it off for repair right away? My own IC910H has worked fine since I changed the PLL reference oscillator for the high spec option. Phase noise is still bad though and the front-end is not crunch-proof.

I am now going to wait patiently until someone makes a VHF/UHF radio of the calibre and quality of the Icom IC756PRO - see my rave review of this elsewhere on eham.net

kenwood 790 beats it Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Used a Kenwood ts790 for a couple of years, for strong signal handling 790 beats 910,the extra power is helpful, although I can only manage 89 watts on 2 metres,432 1296 power up to spec, but otherwise a great radio and useful bells and whistles, certainly recommend it providing you dont have too many big signals close by.

GREAT BUT ? Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Received my IC-910H 01/26/01, back to Icom 02/06/01. Receiver has a very good S/N in VHF/UHF. Display and features are what I wanted in a HI-power rig. However, my unit must have slipped under the QC inspector, the 2 meter output was some 13-15 watts below the specs. But the 430-450 output from PA #2 was miserable; the low band output was below 14 watts and the slope of the output curve was at 440 MHz before 50% of rated output. When reaching 444 MHz the power peaked at 70 watts and fell again to about 65 watts at 450 MHz. Forget 432 SSB use! The load was a commercial B&W and the load was observed via a Bird 43 with the proper slug, SWR was 1.05 to 1.00 or better.
I must say that this one slipped thru the cracks. I will REPOST a follow up report when the rig gets back. I hate to register a low rating, but what it is, is what it is!

A Real Neat Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I only had it a couple of days but I already packed my IC-821 away. This is one nice rig. The Large LCD display is green like the IC-706 and contains a wealth of ongoing info as the rig is operating. If you like the 746 then you have to love the 910H. I haven't obtained the 1296mhz module yet but when I do I will update this evaluation. The radio is easy to operate and the extra power 100w VHF/75w UHF over the older 820/821 series is a welcome bonus to long rangeSSB operating of which I am so fond of. I havent even begun to explore 1296 which will produce 10w from the UX-910 module which I am told retails for approx. 500.00USD. Is it worth it??. I'll let you Know...............73..........Lew W2LEW
