Great 220 rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Our 220 repeater is a Bridgecom and I have only had a handheld 220 in the past. A not very good Chinese radio; then upgraded to a better handheld; but now I have the power to get into the repeater "full quieting". A very solid radio.

Quality has returned to 222 Mhz Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned many 220 radios in years past. Icom 28A,38A, Kenwood TM231/331. All were great rigs that were ultimately discontinued. There has been a dearth of 222 equipment for many years. With the latest incarnation of Chinese imports the overseas importers have tried to take advantage of a lack of 222mhz equipment. These radios typically have cheap construction and/or buggy software and performance. And you get what you pay for.

Finally a US company brings forth a quality 222 Mhz mobile radio. The construction of this radio is superb. It feels of commercial quality from the front firing speaker with plenty of loud, clear audio.

The case is of solid construction consisting of a large heat sink on the bottom protruding out the back. No fan on the back (so no fan noise), but the rig runs fairly cool even on high power.

All knobs and buttons are solid and have a quality feel to them. The Microphone is a heavy, solid DTMF type with VFO/Memory toggling. You can input the frequency directly from the Microphone keypad or dial it with the VFO knob. Very intuitive.

On air audio reports are all good so far. Receive audio is very good. Sensitivity appears very good.

The scan function works very well and is simple to activate.

The price of the radio includes a programming cable and software CD. The software loads easily and the cable actually works! The program is very easy to use and you can program plenty of memories quickly. Also , the internal settings are available in software to personalize the various functions. This software runs very well with no buggy attitude, unlike some of the offshore software provided with the newest imported rigs.

If you have been holding out in hopes of some US company coming out with a 222 mhz radio that will make you remember the "good old days" of the "big three" and their 220 radios then your wait is over. There simply is no comparison here. This Bridgecom mobile is built better than any of the older 220 mobiles I have owned in the past. Truly commercial grade.

And you get what you pay for.
