Best vertical for the money, period. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was originally going to buy a 6BTV new for $189.

A ham friend at work who originally bought a 5BTV in 1991 and never used it offered it to me new in box for $100. Ofcourse, I couldn't pass THAT up.

I even filled out the 10 year old warranty card and sent it in.. I wonder what will happen with THAT?

I choose NOT to install the 80/75m resonator because of the height it adds. I wanted a small unobtrusive antenna. Thus I am reviewing the antenna as a 4BTV, instead of a 5BTV.

The 4BTV was installed easily, ground mounted with 8 radials (2 per band made from 14 gauge copper wire). It tuned perfectly without the need for re-adjustment. I took my time and made sure all measurements were right on before it went up.

SWR is not greater than 1.2:1 on all supported bands, AND I can TUNE it to less than 2:1 on 30, 17, and 12 using the IC-746 internal antenna tuner.

It also tunes to an SWR of less than 2:1 from 52.5-54.0Mhz with the same internal tuner.

So I can use this antenna on all parts of the band in 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10, and on the top end of 6m.

I get good signal reports on all bands and have made contacts on all modes, all bands, all continents. I have worked everyone that I can hear.

I also use this antenna for mobile DX'ing. I can assemble and ground mount it in 5 minutes, including guying (not really necessary to guy though!).

If I ever upgrade, it will be to a 6BTV.

I have experience with the GAP Challenger, and the Butternut HF-6V and in my opinion these antennas are absolutely no better in performance than the 4BTV, but cost twice as much.

Also the construction of the GAP and Butternut aren't up to par with the Hustler.

There is no better vertical antenna for the money. (Accept maybe the Hustler 6BTV).

A work horse. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used the 4BTV with great results for over 12 years. Have used it ground mounted with no radials and with radials. It is a very easy vertical to tune and performs very well. I have no problem working dx, Africa, Europe, Asia on any of the 4 bands with 100 watts output. With this vertical, I don't need any others. Oh yes,I may add the price is right. A very good price for a broadbanded vertical. Does your antenna cover the 40 meter ham band from 7000 khz to 7300 khz with a vswr of 1.3/1 at each end of the band? Well my 4BTV does without the use of a tuner.

Great 4 band Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought my first in 1970, have owned a total of 3. They are simple to put up and with a tuned radial system they work great!

(even have one banging out points on field day with my club)

You can not beat the price..

Buyer Beware Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
At first this seems like a good antenna
solid construction for most parts
mine arrived with a broken part
a poorly made aluminum peice that holds the 40m spider
It has been 2 weeks now and newtronics is still playing games with me about the broken part
This seems to be a "you bought it it's yours" company.

Well now I have a 3 band antenna for the price of a 4 band one

Warranty....what warranty?
