Out of Box Fail - 2nd TYT Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Time owned is actually about 30 minutes... I Wanted full power on 222 Mhz, so I gave the TH-9000D a try. On power-up, the radio went into Scan Mode and no matter which button I pushed, it would not stop. Even keying the MIC. Manual says: any button except off or function.

I should have known better, I just returned a TYT TH-9800 that failed after about 2 months (receive on the left side died). It was out of the Amazon return policy, But, fortunately I got the optional insurance. In my car, I replaced it with an FT-200DR :-)

I'm totally DONE WITH TYT. I like the "Yaesu look" of their radios, and the combination of bands/features in their models. But, in my experience their Quality Control is absolutely awful. They make Baofeng look good. I will probably try the Alinco DR-CS25T for 1.25m next. There's some controversy online that it may be the same design as the TH-9000, and maybe even made in China. We shall see.

Budget 220 radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got the TYT-9000D v2 from Main Trading Co. in Paris, TX. The power out for this "v2" model as measured with an external meter is 60W high, 40W medium, 20W low. Programmable from either the front panel or with RT Systems USB cable.

The printed instructions for setting the repeater offset via front panel buttons are wrong. Press/hold P4 to get to the repeater offset menu, then rotate the main dial to set the offset frequency shift (should be 1.600 MHz). Press/hold P4 again a long time to get it to go to -, press/hold P4 again to get it to go to +, then press/hold P4 again to get it to go to no offset. Quick press any key except F or P2 to get out of the repeater offset setting mode.

I liked it while it worked Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought mine used from an area ham. Not exactly an intuitive radio, but I managed to program about 40 repeaters into it and it worked fine. Until it didn't. The common CPU lockup appeared one day. Google it to find the tales of woe. The first clue was I couldn't shut the radio off. So I pulled the power. Big mistake! When I plugged it back in the display was nothing but gobble-de-gook and none of the controls worked. Now it is a doorstop. A pretty Chinese radio not ready for prime time. Oh well, live and learn. A Korean built Bridgecom is on the way and I have high hopes for it.

hidden problems Time Owned: more than 12 months.
i have had 3 of these, the last 2 in the past 3 years.the second one after 2 years locked up,could not do anything no buttons worked any more.looked onyou tube to see if anyone had the same problem, they did.they did contact tyt and would fix if you sent back to them, was not worth it for a $100 radio,so just tossed it out.the first one which i got in 2012 when they first came to the u.s. works fine no problems so far.i guess the first batch was the best.my two cents, look for another radio.

Junk Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Out of three radios , all three failed within 24 months. Two radios went into KILL mode (KILL/STUN/REVIVE mode) simply by turning the channel selection know. One radio died to an electrical problem. Expecting no help I did email TYT. I received and answer within 24 hours with a suggestion for the KILL mode problem. Applying that fix exposed another problem which I, once again emailed to TYT. Again I received an answer with 24 hours with the fix which returned the radio to full operation. BTW, I am still working on the electrically dead radio which further examination has shown a bad FFC cable between the main board and the display board. Have one on the way from Digi-Key. I'll keep this updated.

Nice rig Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I’ve had mine for about six months and like it a lot. The receiver is more sensitive than the HT it replaced. I can’t comment on programming; a friend with a lot of experience did it for me.

After a few months it had intermittent mic problems. The friend who programmed it had a couple of spares and swapping it out solved the problem. His also had the same problem.

UPDATE from Prior Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After spending many, many hours with the TH9000D 220MHz decided to return it to dealer & pay the significant uplift to get a new Alinco DR235T. I'll spare you my total experience but suffice to say this radio is simply not ready for prime-time amateur use. The tipping point for me was when a ham friend of mine who also recently purchased a TH9000D 220MHz was bitten by the not repairable locked-up CPU phenomena! No Solution; No Kidding! Unfortunately his unit was slightly beyond the 90 day warranty. It's now a paperweight. Buyers can be lured by the lower price / extra power. Buyer beware.

GREAT PRICE ON A RADIO WITH EXTRA PUNCH Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
GREETINGS,

I HAVE HAD THIS TRANSCEIVER FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I HAVE FOUND THE MANUAL TO BE WORTHLESS. I HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTONS UNTIL I FIGURED IT OUT. AFTER THAT IT ONLY TOOK ME 10 MINUTES TO PROGRAM. I PURCHASED MINE FROM R&L ELECTRONICS. SHIPPING WAS QUICK AND GREAT PACKING. WITH THIS 220 MHZ TRANSCEIVER I AM ABLE TO HIT REPEATERS 40 MILES AWAY WITH EASE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RADIO. I WOULD OF GIVEN IT FIVE STARS, BUT MANUAL STINKS. 73, STU W8STU
