Good unit with some limitations Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I picked up the MFJ – 247 this weekend at the Dayton hamvention for $20 with an intermittent band selector switch on the upper three bands. I checked it for cold solder joints and found none. Since I could coax the unit into operation by wiggling the switch I suspected it was just dirty. But looking at how it is laid out, I surmised that it was only used on the lower two bands which worked perfectly. Rocking the band switch back-and-forth approximately 100 times restored perfect operation. Something to remember is this unit only reads out SWR and not impedance. All SWR measurements are referenced to 50 ohms. If you can get the MFJ – 247 at a reasonable price it's a good buy, but do not spend too much as an original MFJ 259 or 259B will provide more features and measure impedance.
