excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have 4 of these models, 2 for 6 meters and 2 for 10 meters splits and they are the best handhelds for these low band that I have used.

I performed the first 6 meter ham mod to both the MT1000 and its sister model the radius branded P200 version along with a 6 channel 10 meter ham conversion of the mid split 42 +- MHz model to 10 meters.

Electrically the MT1000 and the sister P200 are the same radio and in the low band models they use the same RSS programming software.

The radios are available in either a 6 channel P200 or a 6 channel MT1000 with top channel know and no LCD or in the Mt1000 models with 32 or 99 channels with a limited 2 character channel only LCD display.

The only beef is that even though they are excellent radios they still have a limited amount of capable scan channels, 6 regular plus 1 priority if set up correctly but still for low band use I don't find this a problem.

Still even with the limited scan capability and the fact that the programming software requires an older DOS PC, the radio is still an excellent choice for those wanting a real low band handheld with excellent performance.

With 7 plus watts of tx power, excellent receiver performance and one of the best low band HT antennas available and even though at first converting them may appear challenging, it can be easily done if you follow the online instructions available at the REPEATER BUILDERS web page.

I love the low band antenna in this radio so much that I have the same model antenna modified with several different bases to work on my other brand 6 meter handhelds and low band scanners, Azdens, Kenwoods, Midland two-ways and Uniden scanners, all with excellent performance over any other low band HT antenna available.

If you want to convert one of these excellent radios for 6 meter ham use then check out repeater builders web page for all the needed modification information.
