The Timex of 2 meter radios Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Mine has been used and abused and it still works great. Simple to operate and reliable. What more could you want? Mine is one of the first sold by RS and carries the Realistic instead of the Radio Shack brand name on the front.

Great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have had two R/S 202's. Simple, solid and dependable. I ran the last one primarily mobile
with a 5/8 mag antenna and the handheld speaker
mic, and on occasion would run it through a
50 watt linear that I would mount in my mini van,
sure helped to reach distant repeaters. 73's

great for old and new hams-wish they were still availiable: RS Time Owned: more than 12 months.
first HT i ever brought and haven't purchased another- i used to have it in the car with a 5/8
antenna running off the cigarette lighter with
great results.

wish the htx252 had inherited the htx202 ease of
operation

you can run it forever-and i probably will

lately, why can't RS get it right? they should learn from the past and stick to a proven performer instead of the wierd low-powered useless hts' they're now marketing

you can-and should-get one because it will be around a long time. i saw one on the net for about
$100.

PS: get the optional mic if you use it in the car

Great for the low 2001 cost... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I would recommend this radio for anyone who wants a lot of features and a small price. Although many hams do not look for larger handheld radios nowadays, it currently can be purchased for under $50.00. The only problems I've experienced is that the hi/low power button sometimes doesn't work. This is something to note if you are purchasing a used radio. Other than this, the radio has many features including external power input, compatible battery pack and NiCad packs which fit marine and CB radios and easy menu settings. However, there are no mods for the HTX 202, and supposidly a 440 mod for the HTX-404 sister of the 202. I use mine bicycle mobile and it is attached to my bike and works well. I would recommend it as a beginning radio for someone who wants to experience the 2meter band with many features such as DTMF and CTCSS with 5 watts or less or simply an emergency/on the side radio to simply have around. Also, many packet users have faith in this radio and have used it.
