One of the best in the business HANDS DOWN. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Just acquired one of Lou’s SB220 converted 6m amps and thinking of ordering from him another for my cabin QTH cause it’s too hard to find used being no one gets rid of theirs. That’s another story I posted in another review.

As far as his business, a technician and great honest person to deal with I echo what others have said. He’s certainly the best in the business and he won’t take you for a ride. If he can help he will go out his way. If he can’t he’ll let you know, but I’d trust this guy with any equipment I give him for repair, or amp to convert. He knows his stuff for sure.

I’ll leave it there cause nothing else needs to be said. He’s one of the best in the business.

A gentleman Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have never done business with Lou, but he did answer my SB220 questions I asked on a mailing list, and he was kind enough to mail me (at his expense) some hard-to-obtain parts (chokes) I needed to fix my SB220, which had suffered from gassy tube arc-over. He is truly a "good guy." Thank you Lou.

Lou knows his business. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
It's about time I wrote a review about Lou. I 've taken my Commander HF-2500 to Lou a few times and have always been extremely satisfied with what he does. The last time I took my amplifier to him because I thought I had a problem. He checked it thoroughly, found nothing wrong with it , and didn't charge me for his work.
When you leave your amp with Lou, you can be sure it's in very capable hands. Trust your equipment to Lou and you will be very satisfied.

Quality parts and instructions for amp repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A few years ago I purchased a used Ameritron AL-1500. At the time the HV was at 3300 volts, down from the spec of 3600, but the unit seemed to work OK. Over time, however, the peak output was gradually dropping. HV was now at 2800, so I decided to look into it. Suspecting the filter capacitors were failing, I found that Lou could provide a replacement power supply board with a higher than original voltage rating capacitor bank, as well as new diodes, bleeders, etc. I bought the board and found it to be of very high quality with respect to both components and construction. Lou's step by step installation instructions were very clear and required only a minimal level of kit building experience. With the new board installed the HV was at 3600 and full output could be achieved. During the entire process of purchase, payment, shipping, and installation Lou was very responsive to email communication. I couldn't be more pleased with overall experience, and recommend him highly.

Outstanding service Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Lou is a pleasure to deal with. Right away he answered emails promptly and invited me to drive out with my Heathkit SB200 Amp. Bought it in unknown condition and had a number of issues including not working on 80 meters. He immediately found other issues that needed to be fixed including miswired Harbach mods. Promised me everything was fixable and would be as good or better than new when he was done. Didn't disappoint and cleaned up and fixed band switches, corrected inorrectly installed fan that was making a racket, and a miswired relay bypass switch. Thoroughly checked tubes, wiring, and power output. Adjusted input SWR on all bands so rig no longer folds back when amp is connected. Reassured me that amp was in higher percentiles of similar models and tested 735 watts out with 70 watts drive on 40m. Went over everything with a fine tooth comb, as he knows this amp like the back of his hand. Spent time showing me how to tune it, and entertaining with numerous stories about his youth and ham career. Money was well-spent and felt I had made a friend. An intelligent mind and A1 craftsmanship. Highly recommend.

Collins 30L1 Restoration Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased an amplifier which had been in storage for 50 years. I sent it to Lou and he did a complete restoration with upgrades to factory specifications. He kept me informed throughout the process and was wonderful to do business with. I would highly recommend him.

TL-922 Mods Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I can't add much more than what has been said already. A great guy, cares about his work and he did wonders to my TL-922. He even put in some Kessler Mods for me from a kit that I bought. The amp is stable, protected and works great. The Kessler QSK is awesome. I feel like I have a brand new modern amp. Love it!

Repaired SB200 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
What a great person to deal with! I purchased a SB200 Conversion from Lou a few years back and when the Amp was delivered the box looked like it had been rolled down a couple flights of stairs. When delivered I was at work and was surprised to find it in that condition. After trying to run the Amp it was determined it had a problem. I contacted Lou and he had me send the Amp back on his dime. The Amp was returned in a few weeks and was great. The Amp was returned to Lou a few months back after a couple years of service. I had over-heated it running MKS144. Lou fix the Amp and made a few Mods to help it run cooler. And it's back in the shack and run every day. His repair work is superb-and what a great pleasure it is to have such super person to deal with.

FIXED QRO AMP Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I sent Lou my QRO2500DX MARKlll which is a three tube GU-74 amplifier..I tried to fix it my self but gave up on it. I tried a local shop here in Florida and he would not touch it.Lucky for me that I found Lou who offered to help out and I'm sure glad he did. QRO is no longer around and can not be found,The builder did a trouble job of updating any changes he made to all the QRO Amplifiers he built. With the help of others we were able to come up with some of the changes but not all.One of the tubes let go and caused a bunch of problems.Lou found a bad socket..cold solder joints..bad relay and other problems like over voltage on tubes..miss leading meter reading..no wonder these amps eats up tubes. Thanks very much to Lou and the others that helped get this thing back on the air. His knowledge of repair is over the top..Again many thanks Lou!
