Excellent antenna for the price! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I think MFJ hit a sweet spot with this antenna for people who don't have a lot of cash to spend. Light, easy to move around, not too expensive to install if you follow their recommendations. The manufacturing process is pretty straight forward. I found it fairly easy to tune by taking my time and only lengthening or shortening the wire by very small increments. Is it a high dollar hex-beam, no. But, it works incredibly well for what it is. A low cost solution to get on the; 10, 12, 15, 17, and 20m bands. Could they have made it beefier, sure for a much higher price. I was talking all over the United States last night and only had the antenna on a temporary tripod, what fun. Sometimes I think we lose sight of that. The only recommendation I have is to put all the screws, washers, and nuts on the element arms first, saves lots of time later. Total time for build till on the air about one hour.

Excellent limited space multiband antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I thought I would try this new offering from MFJ because of it's low visual profile and 5 band coverage 20-10m. At my location in north central Florida, the 2:1 bandwidth ranges from 250 KHz on 20m to 160 Khz on 10m. The bandwidth measured much narrower than that while I was adjusting the antenna at 6 feet off the ground with an MFJ 259B, but was very happy to see it widen out when mounted at its final operating height of 20 feet. The antenna is light but impresses me as reasonably durable due of its low wind profile. I've used it mainly on digital modes (20m, 17m 15m) with good results, meaning if I can hear a signal at -26 dBm I can usually work it. The 1835 is roughly omnidirectional and I have worked pretty much everywhere from Greenland to the South Pacific, Africa and Eurasia. In my opinion, the MFJ-1835 is an excellent zero gain HF skyhook with few significant compromises and several definite advantages: 1) assembly took me about two hours and I was able to do it alone. 2) I was easily able to install the antenna by myself. 3) 5 band HF coverage with a small diameter and low visual profile. 5) Omnidirectional with overall performance about the same as a standard dipole. For tuning outside the 2:1 range, an antenna tuner works just fine, but take the time to carefully tune the antenna to your preferred frequencies as described in the instructions. This process is rather critical, but the result pays off.
