I guess I'm spoiled Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I must say that I can't give this receiver 5 stars. I have the PR-D5 (the original analog, not the current DSP version of the exact same model name). Naturally, I'm comparing the newer PR-D15 to the 'original PR-D5. I'm giving the "5" four stars, the "15" gets three or three and a half. Here's why: on the PR-D15: the 'stepping' volume control, reduced volume on AM frequencies above 1400, no way to keep display showing 'frequency', the soft muting can cause a very drastic volume changes on distant fading AM stations.
The charging system quit in less than two years. My rechargable batteries are now useless unless I spend more $ for a charger.

Very Good AM FM Portable Receiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The Sangean PR-D15 is an update to their very successful and well-reviewed PR-D5 AM FM stereo portable receiver.

The D15 is a DSP based receiver and sports the performance that many modern DSP based receivers, namely excellent sensitivity and selectivity, in both the AM and FM bands. It has AM performance that is rated by most reviewers as among the top half dozen portable receivers. I concur.

Some of the D15 major features includes:

- 200mm Ferrite AM Antenna Bar to Allow Best AM Reception
- 10 Station Presets (5 FM, 5 AM)
- Easy to Read LCD Display with Backlight
- Excellent Reception and Stereo Audio Performance
- Stereo / Mono Switch
- Rotary Treble and Bass Control
- Loudness On / Off
- Auto Seek Station
- Fine Tuning with 1 kHz Steps
- Alarm by Radio or HWS (Humane Wake System) Buzzer
- Sleep Timer
- Rechargeable with Charging LED Indicator
- Portable Size with Easy Carry Handle
- I/O Jacks: DC-In, Aux-In and Headphone
- AC Adapter Included

My impressions after using the D15:

- The performance is top notch .. both AM and FM.
- A good set of features that are easy to use.
- My primary use of the D15 is to listen to AM voice radio. I am a bit older and I have the somewhat typical loss of hearing sensitivity at mid and higher range of audio frequencies. As such I need a radio with bass and treble controls to allow me to cut the bass and boost the treble. The D15 works well in this regard.
- Good volume and sound for FM music in a small package.
- Being DSP based, the AM tuning requires about a good part of a second for a newly tuned channel to actually be heard. This means that you cannot rapidly spin the tuning dial and hear the stations fly by .. as you can on analog radios.
- The Sangean manual warns that, thanks to our government, they must use a switching type of power adaptor. They warn that is noisy on AM and it surely is. I’m running the D15 off rechargeable batteries (6 “C” cells) and only use the power adaptor to recharge the batteries.
- I wish there was just one button to press to turn on the display backlight at night. I usually just tune off one channel and then back on the desired channel to see the channel tuned to. Even better would be if there was an option to just keep the backlight on.

I am pleased with the PR-D15 and I believe it is worth the street price of about $80.
