ok if your gentle Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The TH D7A(G)has some neat features but the construction of it is poor compared to ICOMs and ALINCOs more recent radios. The silver 'paint' on the front of this HT is already rubbing off, why bother to paint it at all?. It is easy to use and navigate through the menus. For me, its a bit to small.. a bigger speaker would improve it a lot,. if there was room for one. I purchased a speaker-mic for it which works well.

I ordered a case for to protect it and was very disappointed when the case arrived. The workman ship is appalling, stitching already falling apart before it was used and the speaker holes are in the wrong place...and Kenwood has the guts to put its name on the thing. I would spend much more on a good case if I could buy one.

Great hand held in a small package Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this rig to replace my Kenwood TH 78A because the keypad on the TH 78 was too small. The TH D7A(G) has a nice size keypad with many easy to use functions. The main reason I decided to get this rig is the fact that it can be easily programed from a computer. The software is free on Kenwood's web page. It will put out five watts but the rig will get warm if you keydown too long. Mine came through with the 9.6 volt battery pack. The built in TNC was an added feature that I didn't think I had a need for. I was wrong ! On my lunch breaks from work, I usually sit in my car and work some DX. I now take the HT with me and put it in the TNC / Packet cluster receive mode. You do not need a computer to watch the packet callouts. The rig beeps two time everytime there is a new callout. So now I just put the HT on the dash and watch for the callouts. What a great little rig. I paid $395.99 for it new from the local ham dealer.
You won't go wrong if you buy this rig. Easy to program, easy to use the onboard menus, and lots of fun to use. It you want to attach an external antenna, you will need an SMA to BNC connector.
