Poor quality audio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is the factory microphone supplied with my Alinco DR-B185 VHF high power mobile radio. It appears to be a well built microphone, but mine sounds horrible. Admittedly, I may not have the best "radio voice" and often I'll benefit from some emphasis on the higher notes. On this mike, I sound muffled - like I'm speaking through a pillow. My wife, KG5TQT, sounds okay, but just okay. I could no longer take the "poor audio" reports and ditched this mic in favor of the hand-mic version of the old D-104. Problem solved. No control buttons on the Astatic mic, but at least I can use my radio. I've been hamming quite a long time and can say that either there is something wrong with my particular mic, or this is one of the worst designed microphones (acoustically speaking) ever produced. Yes, mine is that bad.

very good replacement for TS-2000 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Works with a TS-2000. But, you must modify the microphone to reduce the 8VDC coming from the radio to 5 VDC to power the DTMF and backlight. I used a resistor but maybe a 5 VDC regulator (7805) be a better choice? I good reports when using this microphone instead of the stock Kenwood microphone.
