	Description: Similar to the G5RV but with collinear components. It has hybrid wire/coax/wire dipole elements on either side. The "W5GI Mystery Antenna" is fundamentally a collinear antenna comprised of three half waves in-phase on 20 meters with half-wave ladder line transformer (based on 468 / 14.175 MHz times the velocity factor of the ladder line (or twin lead) feeder)). The Mystery Antenna presents a six-lobe pattern on 20 meters with gain broadside to antenna and also low feed point impedance to simplify matching. Additionally, the Mystery Antenna is designed to work at least as well on the other HF bands as G5RV. In summary, the Mystery Antenna is a sky wire that incorporates the advantages of a 3-element collinear and the G5RV.

Exceeded expectations			Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
First, I live in a narrow city lot that is about 150 deep and 48 feet wide with house in center and power lines wrapping lot on two sides. Looking for antenna that could match or exceed my Diamond 735 trapped 80/40 dipole. Thought I would try Joe's rendition of the W5GI Mystery Antenna. Called and ordered after hearing one which raised the transmission signal of fellow Ham on my local 75 meter KY evening Phone Net. Joe sent antenna after card payment and it arrived three days later USPS. Opened up and well made as described. I paid particular attention to coax length as feeder and made sure I mounted at 30 feet on center. My configuration because of lot needed to have a inverted "V" on one side and flat top on other. Ladder line comes down on fiberglass Army stack poll (no metal!). I noticed immediately on both 40 and 80 meters an increase in receive. 20 meters was even better in the midst of flat propagation. Testing the transmission with both on-board radio tuner and LDG outboard, antenna tuned up nicely on almost all bands 80-10 except is was 3:1+ on 15 and 10 meters (2:0 on 17 meters; 1:3 on 20 meters; 1:7 on 40 meters; and 2:0 on 75 meters). When transmitting on both 40 and 80 meters with 500 watts received 20 to 30 db over 9 reports equaling and bettering those stations I was transmitting to. In fact I could tell my signal was increased on both bands. Still in process of working 20 and 17 meters to come when better propagation, but I can tell in switching between a "cobweb" antenna and the K4TR Antenna the K4TR is quieter and as strong or more so than the "cobweb." So, in the future I will write more in depth about the performance of the antenna on the upper HF bands where applicable. Station is also clean on any RF concerns without any in-line choke system. Give the Mystery Antenna a try and you might just be a believer, too. Bill, KJ4BAD
