Makes an old radio new again. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
(Note the website is nobleradio_dot_com) I found out by chance that a second hand Orion II I recently bought had the VE7TK 9MHz tap installed. I had noticed something additional when I opened the radio up because it had stopped transmitting. Unable to find the problem, I sent the unit to another ham who has two of these radios and he identified that the VE7TK mod had been performed and was ready to connect to an external panadapter! Namely, the Noble Radio PAN3K. Absolutely salivating over this prospect, I sent Frank an email and he built one for me and sent it to me here in VK during COVID19 in around four weeks. What can I say. My Icom IC-7610 has been sent 250km's away to my remote setup while the Orion is now my centrepiece radio at home. There is some calibration involved but it's all within HDSDR. The role of Ham Radio Deluxe as a mediator may irk some people but it works brilliantly. The three-way connection has been well thought out right down to how it all behaves in TX. My Orion II now has three receivers and a point and click interface. Very happy.

It just works and well Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Well built, installation and setup accomplished in just a few minutes. Had a look inside, very professional construction. Support is just an email away and prompt. My only criticism is a personal preference, I would like all cabling to come from one panel but it is no big deal.

Awesome Panadapter!!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This panadapter is advertised to be compatible with the FTdx3000, 5000 or the Orion II with a 9 MHz tap installed. I tried one of these panadapters, serial number 1, on my FTDX3000 and was blown away. First off, I like the 3K's quiet RX but their fish finder display leaves much to be desired. Using both HRD for radio control and HDSDR for a great panoramic display, the signals just pop out at you. Having the two programs linked by the DDE interface allows "point and click" frequency control of the radio, really nice. Setup is a snap, just plug in 3 RCA plug terminated cables and a USB cable to the PC and you are done. The software will have to be calibrated but that only takes a few minutes. This has now changed my thoughts on looking for an expensive SDR transceiver to replace my 3000. All in all, for the ease of setup/operation as well as the reasonable price, it is hard to beat. The other advantage to this panadapter is that it is not sound card based. So you are not limited to 192 Khz maximum display width assuming you have a high quality sound card. If you have an FTdx3000, 5000 or an Orion II with the 9 MHz IF tap installed you will want to try this adapter to give a new dimension to your operating pleasure.
