Great VHF handheld radio, rugged & solidly built. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This radio is a keeper. I am a land surveyor, I bought this radio 3 years ago mostly for work. In my experience, it's a simple radio that never fails to perform well in most situations on the field. Solidly built, it took a lot of punishments at work: rain, mud, dust, occasional fall to the ground, and yet still operating normally. The audio is loud and clear, I have no complaints. Battery life is excellent, in my case, it would last the entire day with lots of spare capacity remaining. My only worry is the PTT button: the button is very large and easy to reach, but due to its significant protrusion, it may hit other things or pushed inadvertently.

Newest HT for 2 meters from Yaesu ... Strong in all respects Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a new HT from Yaesu and is very strong in all respects. The receiver is solid with out all the inter-mod of some of the UV5, or uv-82 radios. Works right next to my computer with out all the noise of some other radios. Yes, it does cost about $110 dollars from the big Ham Stores but it is worth it for the receiver and powerful audio. Wow one watt audio fills my house with clear audio. My wife will not be searching to turn it off like some other radios due to all the open squelch noise... none so far but she may for peace and quiet... hi hi.
All the controls feel solid as you would expect from Yaesu. The display is clear. I leave the display light on all the time so I can see the readout at a glance otherwise it would go dim after ten seconds or so (adjustable). The FM radio reception is great. Now I can listen to my favorite FM station while walking. Flashlight helps to warn off cars at night.
Only nit to pick is that all my old speaker mikes don't seem to fit the jacks. Do like the solid door over the sockets... water resistant.
Nice feel, great audio, easier to program that many others... what is not to like. Good design Yeasu.
It did take a few hours to sit down in good light reading the manual to program the radio. Manual is clear and larger print than some others. Manual is online and can be downloaded for easier reading too. I have poor eyesight so it took longer to do than it would have 25 years ago. I like it.
