Stupendous transceiver evolving still Time Owned: more than 12 months.
First started my interest with an old Anan 100...
Blown away by the performance.
So after some serious research I bought the 8000...
Using Powersdr and with help from the Apache Labs community, performance was really good.
Bought an Icom 7851... excellent transceiver.
Setting both for the best reception possible, i did an A/B comparison on a very low SSB signal.. with NR2 on the PowerSDR, I could make out what was being said. Not on the Icom.
But being reasonable, its likely I couldn't work the station anyway!
After some setting up, transmitted audio was excellent, surely as much as anyone could want with many professional software tools supplied.
Pure Signal 2 allows a really clean TX signal. Appreciated by some on the bands.
I have had lots of radios, part of the hobby for me????
But this radio exceeds them all..
Have just started using the new Software; Thetis..
Another great step forward for these superb radios..
For those thinking of going this way, I suggest you purchase an older model and see how it goes... as long as you don't mind setting up your computer with programs like Virtual Serial Ports and virtual audio ports, you'll be fine..
To give you an idea of the radios I have compared this against... Flexradio 6700, Icom IC-7851, 7610. Kenwood TS-950SDX, Yaesu FTDX-5000MP.
It beats them all... congrats to the Apache Labs and even more to the software developers and handbook writers.
Game changing??

It depends what you like.... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
It all depends what your interests are.
If you are a computer expert who likes to occasionally dabble in amateur radio you'll love this radio. You'll spend your life configuring unsupported bits of third party software, scratching your head trying to figure out why it worked yesterday but not today, having to do it all again when it stops working after a windows update etc etc. Oh, you'll love it.
If on the other hand you are an amateur radio operator who tolerates computers but actually wants to get on and operate, get a Flexradio.
I found the supplied software clunky and aim to try SDR-Radio since I'm told this this is somewhat more human-friendly. I'll report back :-)
Like I say, it's just a matter of what you're into and how patient you are with computers. The radio works very well indeed, but it most certainly tested my patience.

Best Receiver and easy to use Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The 8000dle I got really opened my eyes to the excellent selectivity and noise control that ANAN provides. Things like diversity reception should be standard in HF rigs today, for instance, as it makes it so easy to cancel out qrn from nearby sources. Another super feature is the Noise Reduction which is magical on SSB and also on AM! In particular, NR2 makes copying distant stations possible that would never have been possible with a lesser system Direct A-B comparison with my 6400M shows that the NR2 is superior in a very big way. On Transmit, the 8000dle really shines with its 200 Watt LDMOS amp and plenty of headroom. Once again, this setup is great for SSB and also AM. The built in EQ is so easy to use, and there is a built in overshoot limiter in the SW too. DXing with the ANAN took a little getting used to and I added a Hercules MIDI controller to provide VFO knobs, A-B switch and a few other functions. This was very easy to do. I was originally concerned about the SW setup that looked complex but it really isn't. It is however a shame we are stuck with this on Windows and certain programs such as WSJT-X fight Win 10 but that was solved using Virtual Audio cable (costs $100 but worth it). I would use this radio exclusively if I could adapt it to MacLoggerDX instead of the clunky HRD program which also looks like 1999. Instead I use the 6400M which runs nicely with the MAC - the only real point in that radio's favor for me, but that is a different review. Yet another thing to like is the out of the box operation on our new 630M band. I got right to it, and with WSPR got the ANAN on that band both transmitting and receiving with no fuss at all. I measured a full 2 Watts out at 630M but would assume that is outside the range and better to have an external amp anyway. Bottom line: Superior receiver and Noise Reduction, plus QRN/QRM fighting features makes this much better than the 6400M in receive performance on SSB and AM. 630 through 6M coverage is impressive, and AM transmit with Pure Signal is superb.

AMAZING ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
For over 60 years I have operated every top of the line rig produced for the amateur market.
I just installed and operated the Anan-8000DLE, and I was FLOORED by every function the Receivers. The DSP noise reduction, Pure Receive Audio, CW operations, Equalizer options. Panadapter options, Audio Peaking Filter, I can go on and on, I am impressed. I Love this rig. I have a Flex 6700 (with the new v2 firmware installed) right next to the Anan-8000DLE. I will use the Anan-8000DLE every time. I will add another review in six months.

First rate Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I am an SSB professional, beginning my career at RFCOM in 1966 and designing commercial and military SSB transceivers ever since. The Anan-8000DLE is the culmination of SSB development to date, and it is a thrill to see its vertical-sided Tx signal using PureSignal with IM > 70-dB down. The volunteer software developers are readily available and eagerly respond to suggestions for improved performance. It is hands down the best money I ever spent on ham hardware, and I recommend it without reservation for superb Tx and Rx performance and constantly evolving further improvement.

Super radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is such a great radio that it will take a year or so to use all of the features. This radio is not for the timid computer user. The Apache Labs radios are not turn key installs. This is my second SDR and I missed the capability I had when I had a Flex 3000. The software is much improved and the user support from the community is top notch. The community has a number of support methods and takes time to get familiar with them. Have a question? The author of that part of the software just might answer you. I'm mainly an Icom guy and replaced fully loaded Icom 9100 for my main HF-6 radio. I have the GPSDO, Adaptive Predistortion (Pure Signal) and Diversity (noise cancelling) that I have been playing with. Lots of fun stuff.

Fantastic Radio !! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This review is for the Apache Labs ANAN 8000DLE HF & 6M 200W SDR Transceiver which is based on the work of the OpenHPSDR community.
Although not 100% qualified to review this transceiver I can hopefully pass on my experiences of owning and operating it for the past 4 months.

Firstly, it is a beast weighing in at just over 12Kg.

Being a bit of a black box operator, I’d forgotten how much fun radio can be – it’s not all about working stations, it’s the whole experience of learning and self-development in to new and exciting areas of radio.

This radio is definitely not ‘Plug-n-Play’ but is for those with a lot of time or who have an above average understanding of computers and software control of amateur radio periphery.
To my surprise the unit arrived without any paperwork – a ‘Rig in a Box’ – Literally!!
All of the operating information on how to get the radio to work has to be sought from the Apache Labs web site which in many cases refers you to other Knowledge Bases for info on specific operating / setup instructions – I've never surfed the web so my in my life !!!
The radio is operated by one piece of dedicated software - PowerSDR.

Like all SDR’s there is no need for external panadapters, sound cards etc for your digital modes as everything that you require is built into the radio and PowerSDR software – There is just one connection required between the radio and Computer which is via an Ethernet cable.
At point of writing this review I've yet to get my digi-modes configured.

I’ve had this radio for almost a 4 months now and have found myself guilty of hardly touching my other radio (FT-991A)… apart for operating digimodes (see above)

The radios receive performance is fantastic with the Noise Reduction and Noise Blanker settings out of the box capable of extracting the weakest signal out of the noise.
In addition the radio supports Diversity Receive functionality where you can combine two receive RF sources to enhance the receive signal or mix them in opposite phase to reduce certain sources of interference. This is extremely effective!!

The radio / SDR works very well with DDutils which is a very useful piece of free software. It was originally written for the Flex radios to be able to interface with other pieces of equipment, it allows control on amplifiers, power meters, ATUs etc by providing band data over the COM ports. If you use an external Power Amplifier with your radio it provides a mode called Autopower where you can set a reduced power level for use with the amp automatically every time you click a button to put the amp on line. Very useful to save blowing up the amp!!

All in all a fantastic radio to play with and learn new things along the way.

Not Cheap but Highly recommended !!
