QRP Fun Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I’ve had my radio for six months. Still amazed about all the features found in this little radio. For the price I think your getting maximum bang for your buck. They are continuing to up date the software which add improvements and new features to this great little rig.

There is an excellent Facebook page which is a great support for anyone who purchases this radio. So in my opinion, iif your looking for a QRP radio, one that comes with all the extras built in (except for the key/paddle) then the X-5105 might be the radio for you. You just can’t beat the price for the value.

a new breed of radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
welcome to a new breed of radio for the amateur community; the X5105, which is at the time of this writing exclusively distributed by MFJ with a two-year warranty, represents an intial entry and toe-hold into the last-bastion niche domestic market held by Elecraft - watch out, Elecraft!

you'll get the 5W transceiver, a USB programming/Cat cable, manual, sticker, mic head, mic cable, and power cable in the box

some basics: 160-6m coverage in various modes; internal tuner; internal Li-ion good for ~8 hrs; 100 memories; large monochrome LCD w/brightness/contrast controls; ACC, data, headphone, amplifier, mic jacks, etc.

some things i found interesting:

- direct access to 1st IF via sma jack on side - good for a freeware panadapter w/an RTL-SDR USB
- updateable firmware
- psk decoding
- scan sweep w/monitoring
- swr sweep, handy for antenna adjustment

if you want CAT control, simply plug in the supplied USB cable into your 'puter and rig, then choose 'ICOM IC-7200' in flrig, etc. - you'll get PTT and all essential controls; for psk, use the CE-19 interface sold by MFJ or custom cables from that evil 'net auction place, or get a NUE-PSK

is this rig perfect? nope, but the manufacturer obviously wants to be a player, and has released at least two firmware updates in the last six months to add many new features

is this rig an Elecraft killer? no, i don't think so, and the X5105 certainly doesn't have the mind-boggling display and available customizations of the RS-918

but the FCC approval/acceptance, along with the ARRL's positive April 2019 review means that this rig is going to be popular - snag one if you can
