Reviews: 3MSRP: 79.95
Description:
MFJs new flat, compact SWR/Wattmeter is plenty rugged to take the abuse of
brutal mobile and portable operation.
The meter is fully enclosed in a strong aluminum case with just the scales
exposed. Only two small switches are slightly protruding so theres little to break.
Simultaneously read SWR/forward/ reflected power on full size 3-inch lighted
Cross-Needle Meter. Use 12 VDC for meter lamp or plug into cigarette lighter with
MFJ-5510. 30/300 Watt ranges, 1.8-30 MHz, SO-239 connectors. 5Wx3Hx2D
inches.

Perfect for Mobile or Portable Application Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Excellent size for mobile or portable operation. Yes my ICOM-7100 has a SWR indicator but it's tiny. This little Cross-Needle meter shows me exactly where I need to be to tune my Little Tarheel II . I like to watch the reflected Needle zip down as the Power needle zips up. It fills a niche between 1500 watt large meters and meters only suitable for CB use.

Small and Lightweight Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The good:
A nice handy little SWR/Wattmeter.
Lightweight and very portable with full-size meter analogue functionality.
Easy to use and set for QRO or QRP.
The additional internal light is handy in night time operations.

The bad:
Only one thing. The meter display is poorly mounted internally. Although described as rugged, (which is true for the metal casing) the plastic analogue display meter is rather weak. Slight pressure on the face of the meter can cause it to push inward and break its plastic mounts.
I had to open it up and retrofit my own mount to hold the meter in place.

Overall a good and accurate device I use as a backup.

Nice addition for portable or remote operations Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this in prep for setting up my shack in Vietnam (operating as XV9WJR). I needed something small & easy to pack. My primary 'shack' in Vietnam consists of a 2'x4' desk so space is a big consideration.

The thing I liked most about this meter is that it simply plug and play.
There is a 12v input for the meter lamp, but is not required for meter readings.

It is pretty simple construction, and seems reasonably rugged. I do wish the lamp switch and the push button 30/300w selector switch were on the sides or front rather than the top. A mount for portable use would be an ideal feature.
