Updated information concerning intermod Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
First of all, thanks to KG4MYC in his review for the information on the proper way to activate the memory skip icon! Yaesu Technical Support in CA initially told me that it was a software/hardware problem that Japan was working on!

The following infromation is directly from John Lynn, Customer Service Manager & Jerry Darby with Tech Support at Yaesu in CA.. About 1 week after the FT-7100M's were shipped to the dealers, Yaesu became aware of the intermod problem! An update is now being manufactured, 3 new chip caps & a chip resistor on the main board. The way to tell if you have an "updated" version is to look at the box beside the factory label (contains bar code, etc.), it should have a "yellow dot". In my case, serial # 1D040201, there was nothing present on the box beside the label.

Yaesu also stated that they notified the dealers of the update and were given the option to return them for updated stock. In my case, with HRO, this was verified by HRO Corporate and I have sent mine back to Atlanta to be replaced with new stock. HRO Atlanta was unaware of the whole situation surronding the 7100 woes! Once I did the "foot work" and found out about the "yellow dot" there were no questions asked. HRO wanted a serial # series for the revision start, but, aparently (according to the above gentleman) this is on a need to know basis. "The VP is the only one with that information."

I understand that this revision takes care of the intermod situation, not sure about the scanning issue however! On a side note, HRO Atlanta states that all there recent shipment of the FT-7100M's have not only the "yellow dots" but, also have a "red dot"! Wonder what the heck that thing will wind up representing? Perhaps an accurate Operators Manual! (;))

Don't get me wrong, still love the radio and its features! Just a little agravating doing the field testing for Yaesu time and time again!

Anyone hear tell of anymore updates, problems, etc. let us all know here!

Back to the drawing boards Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned the radio for 3 days now and was excited to get it. After getting it and learning the features I was really impressed and couldn't wait to start programming it. After programming it I had some problem with the Automatic Repeater Offset but figured it out. After I got all of my memories in for the time being that I wanted, I started what I thought would be a lot of fun but turns out to be a mess. For one if you are listening on VHF and are scanning on UHF the radio makes a very annoying scanner noise through the speaker that will actually cut out weak signals. Secondly the scanner noise is on the INPUT of the audio receiver so you have to turn the squelch up which makes week signal impossible to receive. Overall the radio has some very cool features if you don't like scanning. Secondly I am getting really bad pager noise that is constant and I can't even get through the memory scan one time without stopping and listening to absolute CRAP. Until they fix their problems I really do NOT recommend buying this radio. Very good ideas but not enough testing.

My FT-7100M Woes Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received my Yeasu FT-7100M on Tuesday 4/10/01. I quickly read the manual. Not a very good explaination of the menu items. The radio would not do "Auto Repeater Offset(ARS)", even though it was selected "ON". Had to hard reset the radio about 4 times to get it to work. Then after programing a few memory channels, I followed instructions for "Memory Skip", and the small triangle does not display as it is supposed to, but it skips ok. And lastly, when you are scanning the Sub Band, and you want to use the Main Band, there is such a racket being made by the scanning of the Sub, it is annoying. I also noticed that the manual states it has a "Thermostatically Controlled Fan". NOT TRUE. It just flat comes on when the radio is keyed. Like most of the other Yaesu and Icom Dual banders. So far I am a bit displeased with the radio. BUT, it does have some nice features, like a 6 pin telephone line type plug connecting the face to the main body. Much better then the small screws on others. I have emailed Yeasu to see what they say, but after 4 days, no response.
