bad very bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had the radio for over a year now and i use it mostly as a monitor in the shack. it goes to sleep at times and i have to power it down to resit it .....as far as i know the only way to shift the off sets for + - is to program one of the mic buttons to do that .....I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RIG TO ANY ONE....I WOULD SELL MINE BUT I COULD NOT GET ANY THING FOR IT BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE TO TELL THE BUYER ALL ABOUT IT...PERRY WA8THK

not empressed at all Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
i have had this radio for a week and already things have started to go wrong. firstly the extension speaker socket has developed a fult. so now i cannot interface it with my computer. i bought the radio to use on echolink and eqso to set up a gateway on uhf. but now i are very dishartened with the radio. i think i are going to exchanging it for a kenwood 707e it is a much better radio.serial number:-*1n22????*

Outstanding Value! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought my 7100 about 3 months ago and it has been outstanding in every respect. The seperate audio out to a different speaker for the sub band is great! Mine is a ser # "2DXXXXX" and seems to have all the fixes judging from all the negative reviews of this radio. Very little intermod ( no more than any other rig I have had) and audio is excellent. Can't find anything negative about this rig other than it has been discontinued by Yaesu, what a shame! I have an FT-90 in my truck, another winner from Yaesu!

Update Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I called Barry at HRO (nice guy), he said the new ones really were a lot better (remember mine wasnt a new one). I didnt want to take the risk, as this is a christmas present. He said he has heard great reviews on the IC-2720, it works as advertised. They will take the 7100 back and give me full credit, and ship the 2720 out right away. I popped the cover on the 7100 before I packed it up, and there is a fair amount of rework, piggybacking etc. Still didnt do the trick,
it wouldnt stop on an 800mhz freq at all, yet when just sitting on it, it came in 1/2 scale. Also the up/dn buttons on the mic sometimes took 4-5 presses of the button (tried diff mic....its not the mic) then it would advance the channel and freq display, yet the local wx was still coming in, ie total brain failure. Too bad, could have been a good rig, aside from the annoying operational features, it could have been tolerable. but to still be selling crap like this 2 years into a model cycle is inexcusable. Never had a radio piss me off like this one did (could ya tell I was pissed?) I will be VERY apprehensive about buying another yaesu with quality control issuews like this floating around. Still love my FT50 though, have tons of radios, yet thats always the one I leave the house with, so I know its possible for them to make a decent radio.

Just got one of these 12/17/02 from HRO NH with a 1H150xxx serial (brown/green dots on this beauty!). If you thought they junked all the"ones" you are wrong! I see messages on here from MAY with the new "2"'s out, just how OLD is this piece of junk? They are still putting this crap out! So far this is the worst laid out radio I have ever seen. The Saving of memories is different, due to the lack of a function key. It works, just different.
There is also no offset key, so if you want to put an offset in the 460 range (out of the ham range where the auto-offset doesnt work) you HAVE to assign one of the mic keys this fuction. I'm about the biggest radio geek out there, so if I have trouble setting up the basics, I would consider the radio a falure as far as ease of use. The manual is horribly laid out, important functions are a hidden casual mention in amongst direction for other functions. Still havent figured out how to get the alpha tag to actually DISPLAY. The only way it will stop on a channel while scanning is if there are NO DCS decode's, otherwise it just keeps on scanning, CTCSS seems fine, this is a LONG running problem with Yaesu (WHAT is the problem with this????). Sometimes it ignores skips, sometimes it is receiving one freq while displaying another after you stop scan. If you start scan from a skipped channel, or if you hold the up button down too long and go by a skipped channel, that channel wont be skipped, this is a REAL PAIN when you only have a few freq in memory. Oh, found how to turn on the alpha tag, you hold the LOW key (p 32) (no reference in the index). Eventually I will read the entire manual, but if I want to find something quick, I dont want to have to read the whole thing. The set mode is in alphabetical order, not in order of the most often used functions, like in the FT-50, so never used functions like CW ID is #5, while STEP is #27.( It always starts on #1)
To program skip channels press and hold the V/M, then press the tone key, manual doesnt mention the V/M part (p36). This is an important function to screw up in the manual. Not too crazy about how when you flip the mail and sub bands, it also flips the vol/sq controls, so if you had the vol up, watch out! I am constantly having to raise/lower the vol. (this is NOT like the FT8100) No S meter indication when the sub band is active, I hear something, I like to look at the S meter. Wouldnt let me put an 800mhz freq in ch 1 on the 440 side, ch2? no problem ( this is the freq I had to take the DCS off or it would NEVER stop on scan) Who cares about ARTS crap or 262 memories if it wont stop on scan? Not even going to open the software. This is the only radio in 25 years that I put right back in the box and sent back. This was a disaster before it went to production, let alone all the problems it has had. It jammed up twice in the 3 frustrating hours I had it on. Yaesu will have to improve things DRASTICALLY before I will buy another radio from them. Getting this thing 6 months after the "2's" came out with a 1 pissed me off right from the start. Intermod? who knows, didnt have it long enough to find out. IC-2720 on the way....

FT-7100 - NO MORE Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
YAESU is dis-continuing the FT-7100 according to Giga parts. I have 3 of these radios and hate to hear that because I think it's a great radio for the most part. Yes, they have had some problems with some of them. But when you consider what the radio will do for the price paid it's still worth having a few problems and lets hope that Yaesu will get all of the bugs fixed. With any new production you have bugs that have to be worked out. I have heard that Icom and Kenwood have their problems also.

So far, so good ! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Very nice radio for the price. This radio stays on 12-15 hours a day. No problems, so far. Using it as a base radio, and rarely do I hear an intermod problem. Good audio reports, especially now that I have recently added a Heil HM10-5 mic to the unit. The 3 selling points for me were; ease of programming and operation, the wide receive coverage, and the price. I gave it a 5 because it does as it is claimed, and is a very good value especially priced as it is now at $259.95.

Poor TX audio? Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I used a Yaesu FT-7100M for four months mobile, and I found it comparable to my FT-3000M. The only TX audio "glitch" was over deviation if the mic was close talked or one talked too loud, causing problems on some repeaters. Perhaps the previous reviewers rig was picking up the Hondas electronic circuitry and mixing the hash with the transmitted audio. I found it to be a simple rig to learn and use. I liked it a lot.

Junk xmit audio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a 7100 a little over a year ago for my wife's car. After 5 minutes of use the xmit audio went to hell. We lived with it for a few months do to a busy life. Sent the thing back to yaesu for repair. They worked on it for 4 hours than sent it back. 5 minutes in my wife's honda and once again bad audio. I'm living with it because I just don't have the time to deal with it. Very disapointed with this unit and Yaesu's service and help
