Fantastic BCBDX'ing Loop! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
A product is no better than the company behind it and Gerry at dxtools.com is dedicated to excellent electronic design using top notch components. And his superb customer service second to none. He offers several products for the AM/LW/Tropical listerning enthusiast ranging from loops to phasers.

I recently purchased the Quantum QX Loop v3.0 with the BCB loop head. As luck would have it, my unit arrived with a small hairline fracture in the ferrite rod...most likely a casualty during shipping. I called Gerry and he immediately diagnosed the problem and sent me a totally new loop, only asking for mine in return. The whole replacement was quick and painless; he sticks by his equipment.

With new loop in hand, I paired it up with my Palstar R30C receiver. WOW! The broadcast band...even midday...was hopping with AM signals! Initial out-of-the-box reception was comparing favorably to both my passive 2 foot diameter box loop and my outdoor 80 m inverted Vee at 55 feet. But I soon discovered the 'QX' Q-multiplication feature and was blown away. The ability to use regeneration and narrow the passband literally showcases signals that might otherwise go unheard.

Signal peaking and nulling, especially with the ability to tilt the loop head, is excellent. Last night yielded an excellent example at my Oregon QTH. I was listening to KKOH 780 Reno NV, a 50KW powerhouse. Rotating and tilting the loop head gave a 100% null to Reno...revealing WBBM 780 Chicago IL. Adding a little Q-multiplication, WBBM was now signal strenth S9. Impressive results!

Fit and finish of the Quantum QX Loop is first cabin. It's obvious Gerry's loops are a labor of love, he himself being an active and ardent AM listener. Construction is very stout; the loop is intended to be used and enjoyed for years to come.

With the sunspot cycle in a funk, low band AM listening is coming into its own. Gerry hand tests his stock of components and semi-conductors for lowest noise specs balancing overall gain and noise floor. Each loop is run through his lab and doesn't leave the shop until a 24 hour burn-in is complete and successful.

I have asked Santa for a Quantum Phaser and have been assured one will be under the tree come Christmas morning. The loop and phaser should be a fantastic combo for ferreting out those long distant AM stations!
