Excellent rig control for Yaesu radios Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I recently purchased a Yaesu FTDX10, and, since I sometimes operate remotely, I needed complete rig control support for ALL the radio functions. I normally use HRD, but they have not yet completed their integration for the FTDX10. So, I purchased the Win4Yaesu suite, and I've been very pleased with it.

The controls are laid out in a very clear and concise manner, with all of the radio controls grouped logically by function. In addition to all of the front panel controls, W4Y allows access to all of the radio menu items, which are only used occasionally, and are tucked away in a drop down menu. For the FTDX10, it has a very nice graphical interface for the Tx audio parametric equalizer, where you can see the overall audio response as you make changes to the settings.

IMO, one of the best features of this SW is the support for up to six 3rd party serial ports. You use a serial port program like VSPE or Com2Com to create a virtual serial port pair. Then you add that pair to the W4Y program and enable it. W4Y connects to the 1st port of the pair. You then configure your 3rd party program to connect to the 2nd port of the pair, and voila, W4Y will share frequency, band, and mode data with the other program. This works very nicely.

W4Y has a nice panadapter, which you can configure to receive data from an external SDR, like a SDRPlay RSP1A. This requires that you have the SDRPlay SDRUno SW installed, or at least the SDRUno runtime engine. It also has an interface to ClubLog DXCluster, where the DX spots can be overlaid on the panadapter.

Built into the SW is a Yaesu compatible HRD server, which will connect to the HRD logbook, and will send frequency, mode and band data to the logbook and its ALE window. I use HRD logbook, and this works very well. The program also has the option to autostart HRD Logbook when the program starts up.

Tom, VA2FSQ, provides excellent support, and he also graciously accepts comments and suggestions. He releases program updates on a monthly basis.

All in all, this is an excellent rig control program for Yaesu radios, with lots of additional features.

Easy to use - solid program Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Well, what can I say about this software? It certainly doesn’t have all the “eye candy” of other programs. The user interface is simple and streamlined … but … that is exactly what I like about the program.

I’ve purchased and used (for several months) other “big name” control and logging software and found the user interface to be too “busy” so I ended up abandoning the program because there was too much stuff on the screen.

The user interface on Win4Yaesu Suite is very simple and intuitive to use. There are two versions of the control screen (window) – the standard one which has most everything you need/want on the main window and the mini version (what I use) which has all the major functions in a smaller window with the lesser used functions grouped in to tabs but still easily accessible. As the name implies, the mini version takes up less monitor real-estate. This works for me because I like to have the logging program and control software on the same screen (single monitor).

The documentation states that it will interface with most other logging software. I use Amateur Contact Log by N3FJP for logging so that is the only one I have tested. Getting the two programs to talk to each other was fairly straight forward using the instructions found on the Win4YaesuSuite website. You will need to download and install a virtual comport utility program (Com0Com) in order to have both the control software and logging software read from and control the radio but this is easy to do … provided you follow the instruction exactly, it will work.

I use Win4Yaesu Suite to control my FTdx 10. Although the FTdx 10 menus are a huge improvement over previous Yaesu rig menus (FTdx 1200 & FTdx 991), there are a few things I wanted to have quick and easy access to – mostly band switching and entering a split frequency in to VFO-B. If you own an FTdx 10, you know what I mean. It’s not difficult to do, but can be inconvenient if you are in a hurry to work that rare DX (hihi). I decided to purchase the software after trying it out for about 20 days. It seems to be a solid program, (I tried to break it but it never crashed once).

So in summary, if you are looking for a solid rig control program, that doesn’t have a “busy” user interface, and that interfaces well with your logging program – for $60 USD, I don’t think you can go wrong purchasing this software.

Completes my computerised shack. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had been running Win4Icom with my IC-7300 for close to a year and really liked it (see my review on these boards). A couple of months ago I purchased an FT-991A to give me all mode VHF/UHF as well and I went straight back to Tom's web site to get a copy of Win4Yaesu to control the new rig. The user interface is fully compatible with Win4Icom - which eliminates any learning curve - and the functionality is similarly excellent. For some reason, Yaesu insist on cramming most of the buttons round a central tuning knob - which results in a rig that might perform well but is really not very ergonomic. Win4Yaesu resolves this - I seldom touch the front panel of the radio and it is a pleasure to operate.

Tom is a responsive developer and supplier. I found a niggling bug/feature of Win4Yaesu which was related to specific functionality of the 991A. It was not a serious problem, more an annoyance - but I reported it to Tom, he acknowledged, we had a brief email discussion and the bug seems to now be fixed in the latest release that came out a couple of weeks after I contacted him!

GREAT PROGRAM Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I used this with my FTDX5000 for a stand alone rig control and the SDR play for added pan-adapter really works great together. The SDR RSP-1A is almost plug and play, just down load the software and it is ready.Bets the DMR2000 by far. The nice part is I'm able to still use HRD for logging or any other 3rd party software for log.Easy to control the rig with the nice software and have it up on the monitor and use the mouse for the rig or the pan-adapter. I used this with the K3 also and it worked fine..

Not ready for prime time Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I worked my way thru the documentation hoping I could use this with my Yaesu FTdx1200.... it's supposed to. I threw in the towel after about 3 weeks. Got it to more or less work but it has some serious installation/configuration issues that I just couldn't get past. The so called manual leaves a lot to the imagination. Sure, you could understand what he was trying to get across, if you were sitting beside him to ask some simple question. This software left me scratching my head in a number of places and it became such a hassle trying to work through issues that can and should be clearly explained. Unfortunately it was more like "you had to have been there" to understand what he was pitching. Finally I just gave up. Given some time and effort on his part this could be a nice SDR package but as it is, despite "supporting" the FTdx1200, its not for me and I AM an FTdx1200 rig user. Look elsewhere unless you enjoy trying to decipher a manual obviously not up to snuff when it comes to the FTdx1200. With regard to support... I sent him a page long list of issues and never heard a word back from him. Hmm... sort of surprised me since he says he will get right back to you, if you have issues.

Great Rig Control and other goodies Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
VA2FSQ did a very good job with this software package.
Rig control is seamless with the FTdx3000 & any SDRPlay receiver(s) with 3rd party software integration, it works as it should when set up correctly. I especially like the shortwave database. It makes it so easy to go to any AM broadcast in the database. Just point and click! AAA+++

Too expensive and error messages Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Not happy at all , Error message on startup, and the price is an absolute ripoff. Had better results elsewhere.

Too bad they don't update this program. 60.00 wasted ??? Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Worked well for my FTdx3000. I wish it had support for my FTdx101MP. Looks like I may need to look somewhere else for my logging program

OUTSTANDING SUPPORT AND OUTSTANDING APP! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Tom is absolutely outstanding on support! This software is the greatest thing since ham radio! It controls all functions on my Yaesu FTDX 3000 ! I tried SDR UNO and good software but doesn't compare to Win Yaesu ! Win controls all functions on the FTDX 3000 transmit and receive plus menu settings! Talk about a slick software this is it! I had some issues not with the software but with my computer! It was toooo slow! Tom gave me a recommendation of a good computer so I bought one and issues solved ! I must say this man called me at 9 pm central to solve issues! Outstanding support ! I HIGH RECOMMEND 10 STARS ALL THE WAY!
