Review Summary For : ELAD SP-1
Reviews: 5MSRP: 139
Description:
The ELAD-SP1 powered speaker is designed to work with the FDM-DUO
and FDM-DUOr SDR transceivers. It will work fine with other
radios also.

It can be used as an un-powered speaker if need be. With no power
applied the audio input is connected directly to the loudspeaker
(internally). With power though, it boasts three active filter
settings (flat, 300Hz to 3KHz, and voice optimized responses) and
mute via two small front-panel push buttons with corresponding
blue LEDs.

It is small, measuring h=135mm x w=100mm x d=130mm (I measured it
as about 4.5" x 4.25" x 5.125" on its flat feet).

It either sits flat, or can be tilted back as it has flip-down
front feet that raise the front up to about 1.75" - about the
same as most radios.

Single audio input via 1/8" jack (tip = audio). Supplied with an
8' audio cable and a 2' power cable. Power is via power-pole
connectors. It has two pairs, one for power in, and the other for
power out.

Electrical specs:
DC power 12 to 15 V (13.8V typical)
Audio output 10 W RMS on 4 Ohms (<1% THD)
Audio output 15 W RMS on 4 Ohms (typical 3% THD)
Audio input level 1.4 V RMS Max input across 50 Ohms for 15 W
output
Product is in production

Clear and crisp communication speaker Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased from WIMO Germany, latest SP1-B speaker with adjustable DSP noise reduction. Superb clarity and jaw dropping built-in NR. Room filling crystal clear communications audio.

Solid Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is an excellent communications speaker.
It's not some flimsy plastic speaker that slides across the desk if you touch it, it's a solid feeling aluminum cabinet that makes you think it'll hold up for a very long time.

The sound is excellent with adjustable noise reduction making voices come through very clearly.

Powerpole connectors for 13v in, or works un-powered but without the added audio processing.

It's a great choice

Upgraded SP-1 now has 5 VOL/Filter settings Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
my SP-1 was purchased new from Paul @ EladUSA after acquiring a used FDM Duo (will post a review of the rig after more use standalone and with its SW2 software)

i'm glad i waited to buy a new SP-1 as it appears the speaker has been upgraded with an expanded set of controls for volume and filtering

i was a bit confused at first because i had downloaded the SP-1 manual online - Rev 02 - 03/2019 -, but it did not correspond to the one included in my SP-1's box

Elad has not updated its listing or manual for the SP-1 on-line, so i hope the following helps any users acquiring a used version of the 'newer' SP-1 - which looks just like the 'older' version:

to adjust the volume, hold the MUTE (left) button down for 1 second, then tap the MODE (right) button 1-5X to set the volume, and then hold the MODE button down to save the setting (any change will reset after 30 seconds if you don't save the setting)

to adjust noise reduction, hold the MODE button down when the rightmost LED is lit, then tap the MODE button 1-5X to choose the level; again, hold the MODE button down to save the setting (any change will reset after 30 seconds if you don't save the setting)

i like the fact that powerpole connectors are built in and that a 3.5mm jack is used along with a stereo patch cable (included) to run audio from the rig; a powerpole power connector is included as well

raised front feet complete the speaker, which sounds great... it is a nice addition to my FDM Duo (and other QRP rigs)

Excellent Comms Speaker! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just took delivery of a new ELAD SP-1 speaker today (1/31/18). I purchased it to use with my ELAD FDM-DUO transceiver, but playing with it on my shack operating desk for the past few hours, I found it to be a very capable little speaker that will work well with just about any radio that has a line-level audio output. I have it hooked up to my Expert Electronics MB1 transceiver.

This speaker sounds great! It's plenty loud enough, is very very well built (it's plenty sturdy), and it looks very smart. The little blue push-buttons for MUTE and FILTER SELECT on the front panel are easy to operate.

You can select three filter positions:
1. Flat response
2. 100Hz to 3KHz response
3. Filter optimized for voice response

All three filters appear to perform exactly as advertised. I particularly like the voice-optimized filter for listening to SSB on HF.

I'm seriously thinking about buying another couple of SP-1's for my shack and microwave set ups. The SP-1 is excellent value-for-money IMO.
