Very nice accessory Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I purchased the Icom SP-21 external speaker for the IC-746PRO transceiver. It is a very nice accessory, looks great and sounds better than the built in speaker.

Quite good.. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought it with my IC 756 and I think that audio quality is much better than internal speaker. It looks great with IC 756 and make good line of ICOM equipment.

Sounds good to me! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I think the sound quality of the SP-21, over the internal speaker in the 756, is much improved. Sideband and CW sounds excellent on this speaker. I am quite pleased.

Poor Performance Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this speaker because it matches the 756PROII. It doesn't match the performance of the radio though.

I agree with the general concensus that this speaker is a waste of money. It looks good, that's it!

It's not that bad Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am using the SP-21 a year or so and I don´t think it´s a bad speaker. Of course that there are many speakers better than this one, but, to match the IC-s 746. 756 etc it should be small and consenquently, not as good as my 8 inches homebrew speaker. My homebrew one it´s better than any one (I use an old 8" Electro-Voice full range in a homebrew enclosure). Currently I use the SP-21 with my VHF radio. For VHF and FM, the SP-21 it´s just perfect (for base operation). But I agree that it´s a pricey speaker.

A WASTE OF TIME Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Save your money for something worthwhile. This is a pure waste of $$$. It matches the Icom gear but the performance is lousy

What price color coordination? Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
1) Audio quality -- Poor. Small speaker, crummy audio response, tinny sound.

2) "Rig-matching" quality -- Good. If you have a '746 or '756.

So you can make a choice based on what is important to you. I got rid of mine and got an SP-20. The SP-20 doesn't match anything made in recent history (another area where Icom got lazy). It is also overpriced, and but so is the SP-21, if you evaluate it as a "speaker".

Way overpriced Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Bought the SP-21 as a companion for my IC-746, man did that look nice! Didn´t have another speaker to compare it with, so it was great for me. Went to the annual Hannover ham-radio-fair and got an old SP-3 on the fleamarket. It is the matching speaker fot the IC-740 but it has the perfect size for the 746. Wanted it as a speaker for my K2 but first checked it on the 746: Way better sound! Much more low frequencies make SSB narrow listening much more enjoyable, sound is all in all more powerful and "round". SP-21 is for sale now, will never buy such an expensive gadget again. When you see external speakers on a swapmeet: get it, they´re rare!

Just Average Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this speaker because it matches my Icom IC-756Pro and it does look good setting along side the pro. It's audio quality is just average though with hardly any lows heard. I have a pair of Alpha Delta speakers that sound much better for comparison. I also believe that the workmanship on it could be improved. It doesn't even sit level on desk that I know to be level. Instead it rocks back and forth upon touching it. I believe it's absolutely ridiculous what these companies charge for accessories that are just medicore in performance.
