Good Guide Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I also saw this on the YouTube video and tracked it down. I had already purchased the Nifty guide after a great experience with the Nifty IC-7200 variant. The low contrast typeface on the FT817 Nifty booklet didn't chime with me and Nifty's decision to plaster the spare space (!) on the rear page with Nifty adverts left me nonplussed. Guys- make the typeface a little larger and lose the adverts please. By complete contrast, I was more than just pleased with the Pack-It Reference Guide. The yellow paper does indeed make for easier reading. There are a number of changes related to the FT-818 "upgrades", but that's no fault of the author other than implying it should really be raised at issue at some time. Seriously- don't bother with the Nifty thingy, you'll find this little book incredibly more informative, well laid out and just plain useful.

informative, convenient size Time Owned: more than 12 months.
i'm not tecnically oriented. i prefer knobs to button menus.
however, i love my 817. this reference cover a lot of things in detail that the owner's manual doesn't.
it has tips from other hams (with their callsigns). i saw one on a youtube video. a ham casually mentioned what he was putting in his 'go box' and this reference was one item. i sent him an email asking about it and he couldn't remember where he got it, but gave me the name and callsign of the author (a canadian). the canadian said universal stocked them and here i am, a happy ham.
this was written for the pre-nd model, and one thing mentioned is when charging, the tx light glows orange. my nd does not, and the manual doesn't mention that it should.
the reference has stiff clear covers, is plastic spiral bound, and, while the print is a bit on the small side my aging eyes still focus on it. the pages are yellow, thus being easier on the eyes than bright white paper.
shipping costs bring the dollar total to almost $22.
universal's catalogue number: 3544
time from order to receive was a week.
if you like cats be sure to click on the 'cats' box on the home page for pics.
i'm getting a second copy for my home reference library.
