An excellent cure for display upgrade or repair Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Hello Folks:

Well over a few days, the screen on my 756 Pro III began to fade and flicker. Then one morning, it just lit up for a few seconds and then the screen was black.

I was scared, thinking my main radio was going to have to be shipped back to Icom for a lengthy and very expensive repair.

Lucky for me, I mentioned the problem on the local net and one of the operators recalled having seen a person advertising doing these kind of repairs. After a bit of Googling I made contact with Max Donoghue VE3TMT located in Kingston, Ontario.

After speaking with Max, it turned out that I only had to remove the front panel from the radio and send it for the fix..... not the whole radio, although that was possible for those uncomfortable with "working under the hood" of the radio.

Max was absolutely hands-down excellent with respect to communication, status, acceptance and delivery tracking numbers so I knew exactly where the equipment was at all times and what was happening.

Once I received the upgraded panel from Max, I installed it and was immediately impressed with the way it looked. I was overjoyed.

However ... there was a momentary "flicker" in the display which I reported to Max and he immediately asked me to send it back "to be made right," and paid for shipping both ways. He did a fix that turned out to be some wires picking up interference from a display driver. This is an unusual, first time seen issue compared to previous upgrades he had completed fully successfully.

Max has increased the burn-in time to detect any problems.

He fixed it quickly and when it arrived, I put the radio back together and to me, it seems to be even nicer than the way the radio came from the factory. Beautifully crisp to read, brightness, contrast, etc are still control function.

I can recommend this upgrade without a hint of reservation. I did not know Max before this interaction, and have no connection with him except for gratitude in saving my beautiful radio for me and I swear, making it better in appearance than I can recall ever seeing before.

W8HMK Icom 756 Pro III LED Upgrade Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is not a review of the product but rather a review of the service provided by VE3TMT - Max - as I am preparing to have my 756 Pro III upgraded. I purchased the kit from Max which arrived today with the step by step installation instructions. Looks like it may be a bigger job than this old guy is capable of doing. Sent an email to Max asking if I decided not to do it but wanted him to do it would that be workable. I had a response within 15 minutes - maybe less - telling me exactly how that could work. I asked several more questions and again had very prompt, helpful responses from Max. I am proceeding with great confidence that I will receive excellent service in a very professional way. Thanks, Max!

Awesome upgrade !! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just received my Icom 756 Pro II panel with LED Backlight upgrade back from Max. Just got the panel installed, and WOW !!!
Great product / and Job.
He now sells the Backlight in a Kit form.
If you own a Icom 756 Pro this kit is a "MUST".
Even if your display's backlighting is okay now...it will fail in time.
And this is the only solution. In the backlighting circuit there are 4 common parts that fail...one of which is that is "not" available anywhere.
Thanks again Max

Well worth it! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
VE3TMT, Max, kept me updated on the whole process from the time he received the PROIII panel along with pictures of his work in progress- until I received it. He emailed me making sure that I was pleased with his mod. The LED display is brighter with easier to read letters and numbers on the display. I am very pleased! The cost may "seem" expensive upfront, but if you plan to keep your PROIII for a very long time, this LED mod is worth it! One word of caution: if you haven't shipped to Canada for a long time, check with MAX about the potential "excessive" (IMHO) Canadian Customs fees before you ship! Thanks Max, VE3TMT, for a great job!
